Louis Workman of the Charles Gordon farm east of Thomson reports two valuable milk cows a heifer and two brood sows were electrocuted last Tuesday at the drinking fountain in the barn. The loss was covered by insurance.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Dykstra and family visited Clinton on Monday evening with their son in law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. John Bogart and daughter. The occasion included ice cream and birthday cake for Mrs. Dykstra and Mrs. Bogart.
Mrs. Antone Holmquist hosted a birthday gathering last Tuesday afternoon for her daughter Penny turning four. Present were Denise Halfman, Darcie Halfman, Todd Halfman, Rosemary Senneff, Roxanne Johnson, Johnny Ray Johnson, Dennis Weis, and others. The children played games and enjoyed cake, ice cream, and refreshments. Penny received many nice gifts.
In The Churches Answer is GOD a roundup of services and meetings lists details for GOD Worship in York Community led by William Kendall with morning worship at 10 and Sunday school at 11. Methodists led by Wilbur Nicholson schedule services at Argo Fay Hickory Grove and Thomson with various Sunday school times and planned meetings including official board and WSCS sessions. Catholic services in Fulton and St Johns Savanna are provided with times across the day.
Weeklong school menu lists daily meals from February 19 to 23. Monday offers chili and crackers. Tuesday features creamed turkey. Wednesday serves beef and noodles. Thursday shows sloppy Joe and corn. Friday provides salmon loaf with potatoes. Milk and bread accompany all days.
Freeport couple Mr and Mrs Louis Petit visited Mrs Willie Leopold in Riverview while cottage guests from Elmhurst included Mr and Mrs Gibson. Numerous neighbors shared dinners and evenings at homes in Clinton Savanna Chadwick and surrounding areas.

Mrs Laura Croffoot of Savanna reports the death Saturday at 1:30 p m of her son in law Leo West of Aurora husband of Harriet Stratton He died in Hines Veterans Hospital after six months as a patient Funeral services were held Tuesday at Healy funeral home in Aurora Surviving are the widow two step children Chester Leland and Mrs Martin Honoker and one sister all of Aurora Attending the funeral were Mrs Croffoot and son in law Vic Wagner of Savanna
Mrs. Lloyd Bruckner was severely injured Saturday morning when caught in a silage unloader on their farm. She was taken to Savanna Hospital with serious bruises and a severely cut leg and was expected to undergo surgery that week.

Thomas Kustes Jr. was discharged from St. Francis hospital Freeport after surgery. Lee Preston moved to the Veterans hospital in Iowa City. Thomas Hand Sr. remains a medical patient at Mercy hospital Clinton. Mrs. Don Dell and Mrs. Ivan Morse were medical patients in Savanna hospital with Dell awaiting release. Several flu cases are listed among local residents, including Bush, Jr. and others.
Mr and Mrs Merle Bielema hosted Thomson relatives for Sunday dinner at River View with her parents. Several pairs visited and guests included Hal Ashby and family, Carroll Landherr of Lanark, Eugene Halfman crowd, and Leroy Gablin newly subscribing from Veterans Administration Hospital Danville Illinois.
Mary Ann Hoff was honored at a renup tial shower hosted by Peggy St Ores and Evelyn Wilt at the St Ores home Monday evening. Attending were Romson High School Seniors and Mrs. Francis Hoff Mrs. Paul Wilt and Mrs. Herbert St Ores Sr. Gifts featured a blue and white umbrella theme.
Mr and Mrs Paul Smith receive word their son Ronald P Smith currently in the U S Air Force has been promoted from Airman First Class to Staff Sergeant in the engine unit.
Sunday and weekend socializing filled area homes with visitors from Marion Savanna Clinton and Sterling. Guests included Otto Switzer and John Hoff at Garden Plain, Ashby families from Marion, Fay Ashby, Robert Smith and daughters of Fulton, Judy Fossett Chadwick, Richard Piller LaMoille, Dora Wieven de, L E Kindle family at Sterling, Eugene Murray and David Murray from Sterling, Hazel Stagg and R C King en route to Texas, Ed Andring Dennis visiting Wabesha Hopkins St Charles Minnesota, and Larry Weis with Tony Olmquist.
The Thomson Trojans edged Sabula 58 55 in their last home game of the year. McGinnis led Thomson with 24 points while Spencer added 14 and Rich House paced Sabula with 21. The frosh soph also won 52 31 and Thomson finishes the season before district tournament play.
The Thomson Trojans fell 91 to 81 to Hanover in a tight game. Hanover led early and relied on five starters in double figures, while Thomson’s Bill Spencer scored 25 and Don Groharing 20 as Thomson battled back through the third before a 14 point final period. A 37 35 preliminary game preceded the main contest. A separate fire call reports smoke damage at Don Mackay's Grandview cabin.
Mr and Mrs Ronnie Bielema and son of Grant Michigan and Miss Ruth Bielema of Grand Rapids Michigan visited Mr and Mrs Donald Sippel and family last Saturday afternoon. Mrs Ken Kemmer and Douglas Morrison visited with her parents Ben and Stage. Cecil Green and family of Mt Carroll visited Sunday with Herman Timmons. Lloyd Cecil and Elsie Tousley returned home Friday after Tarpon Springs stay. Gene Fehler a Northern University DeKalb student was a Thursday overnight visitor with Franklin Fehler family. Esther Hackbarth Winona Parker of Rock Falls visited with their mother and grandmother Mrs Herman Timmons.
The Thomson Lions held their monthly meeting at the school voting to sponsor the annual Athletic Banquet for grade and high school athletics. The event will be on the 26 at the school cafeteria with a Clean-Up Campaign committee appointed including Orville Gablin Emil Brach Pete Cate and Kyle McGinnis. The next meeting will be Ladies' Night at Meekers on Monday February 26.
Multiple club and church meetings scheduled in Thomson and surrounding areas including Ruth Circle WSCS Argo Fay and York Progressives with dates February 7 19 21 and 22. Obituary notes Edna Robertson 83 of Argona describes a large Thomson family with six daughters three sons 25 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.
Sam Mattie of Palatine and Bob Gray of Geneva opened a boat factory this week in LaCrosse Wisconsin. Sam is the son of Mr and Mrs George Mattie and Bob is a son in law of Mr and Mrs John Ashpole all of Thomson. They plan to move their families to LaCrosse after the school term ends.
Mr and Mrs Tom Root of Savanna entertained relatives Sunday evening for their son Joel’s second birthday. A social time followed by birthday cake and ice cream, with guests including Earl Voss Lawrence Almquist Mrs Frank Brown Sr Mr and Mrs Jack French Earl Root Linda John pet and children and Harry Root.
About 215 relatives and friends attended the Thomson rural home celebration for Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hook as they marked 25 years of marriage. Guests enjoyed cake cookies sandwiches coffee and floral centerpieces while Cheryl Hook managed the guest book and Edward Hook called from Fort Carson Colorado to extend best wishes.
A series of Sunday and Monday calls marked social visits among local families. Mr and Mrs Louis Workman and Larry visited Mr and Mrs Henry Wilkins of Morrison, others included Mrs Lloyd Handel and Mrs William Handel of Chadwick with Alma and Helen Mertz, and several families around Fulton and Fulton area residents.
Mr and Mrs Stanley Laasch of Burlington Iowa welcomed a son named Brian Charles born February 8 in a Burlington hospital weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces. Mrs Laasch is Carla Eslinger, daughter of Everett Eslinger Clinton and Jennie Griswold Thomson. Mr and Mrs Keith Sturtevant of Freeport announce a son Mark Allen born February 5 with Loren Sturtevant of River View as paternal grandfather.
Mrs Dora Wiebenga broke a blood vessel in her arm after slipping on ice at her residence. She received medical attention for the injury.
Mr and Mrs Ernest Rathje dined with Mr and Mrs Urban Meier in Bellevue on Saturday. Mr and Mrs Thomas Scott from Deerfield Illinois visited his uncle Mr and Mrs Robert Falls and family. Mrs Fred Jecklin and Henry Fink of Chadwick called on Misses Alma and Helen Mertz. Folkert Vanderploeg of Rural Thomson becomes a new Thomson Review subscriber. Mr and Mrs Doug Anderly and granddaughter Pamela Mortensen of Cedar Rapids visited with Mr and Mrs M J Strukhoff and their family.
