County to Improve Highway North of Milledgeville
At a county board session on Tuesday morning resolutions approved plans for upgrading state aid route 19 north of Milledgeville and authorized funds from motor fuel tax for the project. The work covers about ten miles north from Milledgeville. Only routine expenses and bills were discussed, and the board adjourned until March after learning Mr. Zimmerman of the relief commission could not attend.

Three Car Crash Damages Vehicles Near Mt Carroll
Three cars were damaged in a Friday crash on Route 78 north of Mt Carroll near Miles oil station. William Wilson and son collided with Harold Schleming, pushing Wilson’s car into Marius Olsen’s parked auto. No injuries reported and Sheriff Westfall investigated. two other Mt Carroll residents skidded on slick roads and hit culverts, causing minor damage to their vehicles.

Carroll County supervisors voted to discontinue payment of fox bounty effective February 29, 1940. The board noted neighboring counties already stopped the practice and fox numbers have declined since the program began about two years ago. Since 1937 about $2,000 was appropriated and roughly $1,960 spent. Fox hide holders will have time to claim amounts due by month end.

Conservation unit to meet Friday February sixteenth
The Carroll County Soil Conservation association will hold its annual meeting and election at 1 pm Friday Feb. 16 in the Farm Bureau office at Mt. Carroll. Charles Kingery, president, announced plans for the year and possible transfer of the Mt Carroll CCC camp to another community. The group was formed three years ago to work with the soil conservation service unit at the CCC camp and has since overseen soil improvement and erosion control on local farms.

E H Lartz of Carroll county shipped a consignment of butcher hogs to the Chicago Stock Yards last week. Four head at 321 pounds sold for 4.90 per cwt. and 21 head at 246 pounds brought 5.20 per cwt. The latter hogs were farrowed July 4 and late in April. Both lots were fed on corn tankage oil meal and soy bean meal. The Lartz farm is at Thomson near.
