Two Servicemen Injured in Rt 80 Detour Crash
Two Erie men suffered injuries in a Route 80 detour crash south of Savanna. Kenneth H. Weimer, a disabled veteran, was thrown through the windshield and received severe facial and head injuries requiring 15 stitches and serious blood loss. Driver Pfe. Harry Stage escaped with minor cuts as he headed to Erie for his father's funeral. The car struck a fence and settled in a creek bed about 75 feet off the road.

County Board Allocates 90000 for Local Road Surfacing
Carroll County supervisors voted to set aside 90000 dollars in motor fuel tax funds to surface 35800 feet of county aid road through Fair Haven township and Wysox. If satisfactory bids appear, work may start this spring to relieve farmers from mud as the road, long a sore spot, is finally addressed after prior graveling delays and wartime interruptions.

Three Hurt As Ante Collides With Tractor
Carroll county residents were treated Friday night after an automobile struck a tractor on Thomson road route 8 0. Leo Halfman a Savanna veteran was thrown from the tractor seat. Floyd Klitz of Savanna drove the car and escaped injury. his wife and her brother Donald Dittsworth of Mount Carroll sustained head injuries. The tractor was torn in half and the car nearly demolished. Authorities say the tractor was on the shoulder with part on the pavement and without lights.

State Auditor Arthur C. Lueder reported January old age pension payments totaling 4,091,858 and aid to dependent children payments of 1,825,549, both up from December. Carroll County paid 275 pension recipients 8,296 and Whiteside County 724 recipients 23,959. ADC beneficiaries were 38 receiving 844 in Carroll and 250 receiving 4,391 in Whiteside.
