Northwestern Illinois Gas and Electric completed rebuilding its generator at the Savanna plant to avoid extended shutdowns at the Chicago plant. The last rebuilt unit arrived two days after the national strike began and 24 hour work resumed to place the main turbo generator back in service. Officials thanked customers for reducing power use during repairs and noted full service would resume.
A modern locker plant is under construction in Savanna expected to open around April 1. Manager H P Greison says it will be among Illinois’ most advanced facilities with six hundred lockers and renderizing ham curing bacon and lard rendering. The Savanna Construction company builds it. Amana Society of Amana Iowa will supply refrigeration. Six of seven Carroll county towns will gain locker service once complete.
The Fair Haven PTA will meet at the school house Monday evening February 11 at 8 o clock. The program committee Mrs John Doden Mrs Freece Senneff and Mrs Harold A dair will report. Guest speaker Mrs Eugene Murray of Thomson and Lawrence E Bruch county school superintendent will show a movie. The public is invited.
Mr and Mrs Joseph Weber hosted about 70 friends and relatives at a Grange Hall gathering last Friday evening showcasing ice cream and cake in a warm welcome to their recent marriage.

Mount Carroll high school defeated Lanark high Tuesday night 45 to 36 in a nonconference game. Carroll reserves won the preliminary 30 to 21.
The Merry Circle club will hold an all day meeting next Wednesday February 13 at the home of Mrs Dwight Spearman with Mrs Charles Kingery as assistant hostess. They will do Red Cross sewing.
Chadwick news notes Mr and Mrs Fred C Hartman and others were Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Charles W Hartman at Albany. The gathering included Mrs T F Shultz and Mr and Mrs Christy Geison along with Merlyn Schreiner and Darla, then Sunday afternoon and supper with Mr and Mrs Irwin Edgerton.
Miss Violet Flickinger daughter of Mr and Mrs L J Flickinger Lanark and Richard C Bates Rockford were married in Lanark Methodist Church in a double ring ceremony with Rev Donald T Olson. The bride wore white satin with a lace edged veil and carried white roses and acacia. The groom is a Rockford student and they will live in Rockford after a Florida wedding trip.

Miss Addie Dieterman daughter of Mr and Mrs FE Dieterman of Shannon and Elmer Toelle son of Mr and Mrs Elmer Toelle of Freeport were married Friday afternoon February 1 at Shannon Methodist church. Rev Albert Trne officiated with attendants Mrs Theron Winters and Robert Spielman. A reception followed at the bride’s home. Both graduates of Freeport High School, they reside and work in Freeport.
A springlike day Tuesday gave way to strong westerly winds that sent temperatures below freezing by Wednesday morning. Snow flurries drifted in, gravel roads softened by the day froze hard, and travel conditions grew rough as the wind intensified.
Maurice James of Savanna is named Red Cross Fund chairman for Carroll county with March set as Fund Campaign month. The slogan Your Red Cross must carry on underlines continuing aid to armed forces abroad and returning veterans as the Red Cross handles about 150 disasters annually.
Navy personnel discharged from the U S Navy separation center at Great Lakes Illinois on January 28 include Lewis C Glenn Milledgeville Arthur C Ferris and Savanna names abbreviated in the report with ranks and cities.
The Carroll Equity Dairy Herd Improvement Association reports a January DHIA average of 759 pounds of milk and 28 pounds of butterfat from 276 cows across 15 herds. Top herd, John Derrer’s 30 Holsteins, averaged 1542 pounds milk and 45.6 butterfat. Fifteen cows were dry. 71 cows exceeded 40 pounds butterfat.
Milledgeville high school basketball swept Sterling junior varsity, winning 40 to 27 in the main game and 21 to something in the preliminary. Woodin scored 17 points with eight baskets and a free throw, while Girton led Sterling with 11 points.
In 1945 Savanna county coroner Dr J P Schreiter conducted 12 inquests and nine inquiries. No inquests or inquiries occurred in May. Monthly details include two inquests in January and September, and multiple inquiries across June to December involving natural causes, accidents, and self harm.
A box social will be held next Thursday evening at the Grange Hall in Chadwick. The public is invited. Coffee and sandwiches will be furnished. There is no admission charge.

John Towers, 63, of near Brockville, died early Saturday in a Freeport hospital after a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Shoanen with Rev. Merle Hawhecker officiating, burial in Brethren Cemetery at Shannon. Bowers was born near Shannon and never married. Survived by relatives.
Mrs Elizabeth Peters 78 of Milledgeville died Saturday morning at Sterling Public Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Peters home and Trinity Lutheran Church Milledgeville. She was born January 2 1887 in Hazelhurst daughter of Henry and Walburga Graebling. She married Andrew Peters February 10 1898 and they farmed near Milledgeville before retiring to town. Survived by son Albert daughter Mrs John Miller four grandchildren and two brothers Henry and William Crackling. Four brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
Mrs. Mary Sarma aged 84 a long time Savanna resident died from a heart attack at East Moline hospital. Funeral services were held at St. John’s Church Savanna with burial in the local Catholic cemetery. Born March 4 1861 in Czechoslovakia she came to the United States as a young woman. Surviving include three daughters three sons 14 grandchildren four great grandchildren and four other relatives.
Coroner's jury returned a verdict of death from unknown causes for Mrs. Thelma Clarke 26 found dead Sunday afternoon in her Savanna cottage kitchen. Thelma Clarke’s son Darrell Ray, 8, testified he woke during the day and stumbled, later to bed. The body was transported to Maquoketa for funeral services. Clarke, born May 29, 1919, had lived in Savanna 18 months and is survived by husband Ladue Clarke, a son, parents in Norway, and a brother and sister.
Shannon defeated Lanark 25 to 24 on Friday as a free throw after the buzzer by Schwal gave Shannon the win in Carrell conference play. D Brantner led Lanark with 11 points while Roder Mel had 10 for Shannon. In the preliminary Lanark won 60 to 24.
Members of a county school survey committee chosen weeks ago will meet this day evening at the courthouse to chart rural district needs in the county. The committee has appointed a new roster with one member from each township not represented on the original panel.
A survey of accident records at month end shows six deaths in January across six northwestern Illinois counties. Carroll county reports two victims Mr and Mrs John Thompson of Lanark farm who were struck by a Milwaukee streamline train.
The county board highway committee met with S C Campbell and rehired three patrolmen who maintain the county road system. Rufus Kahler from Chadwick Richard Coady from Mt Carroll and Mr Ritenour of Milledeeville will receive a small pay raise. The group plans to buy a new motor patrol grader and add a fourth patrolman, with a possible Lanark building to house the equipment, though new gear likely won t arrive for months.
Governor Dawight H. Green proclaims February 8 to 14 as Boy Scout Week. Scouts plan outdoor work sports and community service to mark the 30th anniversary of the movement founded in 1910 and chartered by Congress in 1916 with about two million members and leaders worldwide.
Orionan Grove, Mount Carroll County Judge, is a patient at St. Francis in Freeport after an emergency appendectomy. Reports on Monday say Judge Grove is getting along well.
Morrison remains unbeaten in Route 72 after beating Mt. Carroll 61 to 48 on Friday night. Buell led Morrison with 17 points while Baldwin scored 13 for Mt. Carroll. Morrison won the preliminary 54 to 39.
Mr and Mrs David Graham attended a dinner last Thursday at the home of their son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Wm Beattie to celebrate the Beatties 31st wedding anniversary. Guests included Mr and Mrs Ray Knorr Bobby and Marjorie and Mr and Mrs Tony Knorr.
Mrs. Rose Boothby of Wacker joined Mr. and Mrs. Fred C Hartman and Mr. and Mrs. Werner C Hartman for Sunday evening visiting. Gloria Hartman noted Hazel Hartman also attended as a guest.
Final plans for the Lincoln Day dinner set for Wednesday evening Feb 13 at 6 30 pm in the Mt Carroll high school gym. Organized by Carroll county Young Republicans the event sold out 330 tickets with public seating for the program to follow at 7 45 pm featuring Gov Dwight H Green Frances Shimer College glee club and Mt Carroll high school choir along with remarks from Franklin J Stransky.
Funeral services for Charles W. Eisenbise 71 a Carroll county native who died January 30 in California were held in Freeport at 1 30 p m with burial in Oakland cemetery. He lived in North Hollywood the last three years born March 16 1874 in Cherry Grove township son of Levi and Alice Eisenbise. He married Bertha Gail May 4 1897 and lived in Savannah 24 years before moving west. Surviving are his widow a daughter Mrs Pearl Neumann of Freeport seven sons Virgil Riley LeRoy Arthur Van Kirk Forrest and Ralph all of Freeport Freeport, Dixon, Hanover and North Hollywood. two sisters and one brother.
Two unidentified prowlers assaulted Edward Lumacher a Savanna policeman Monday night as he confronted them trying to break into the Law meat market. Lumacher was knocked down pounded and nearly choked with his own necktie before the men fled. He pursued in a car search but found no trace.
The army announced on February 1 that all patients will be moved from Schick General Hospital in Clinton Iowa by March 1. The eight million dollar institution is scheduled for closing March 31 and the War Department reports no agency interested. Schick authorities note much administrative work will follow patient departure as Clinton residents seek VA takeover without success.
County Clerk W. M. Nipe issued a marriage license last week to Richard Bates of Rockford and Visola Flickinger of Lanark.
K J Bicker of Milledgeville buys the Fred Geison residence in Chadwick now occupied by Mr and Mrs Harvey Fossett and family.
