Durward Herd Tops DHIA Production Record in January
A dairy herd of eight grade Holsteins owned by Leslie Durward led the Carroll County Herd Improvement Association with January averages of 17.2 pounds butterfat and 1319 pounds milk. One cow was dry. The high producing individual was a registered Holstein from the John Derver herd yielding 89.3 pounds fat and 1866 pounds milk.

Potter earns Bronze Star for WWII gunnery service aboard USS Cowpens
Lt. Cmdr. Robert Henry Potter USNR son of Mr and Mrs Abert Potter of 207 West Morris street received a permanent Bronze Star Medal citation from Navy Secretary James Forrestal for meritorious achievement as gunnery officer of the USS Cowpens during operations against Japanese forces in the Pacific from July 1944 to March 1945. Warmer Weather Helps To Remove Snow From Roads
Rapid temperature rise on Tuesday and Wednesday lifted morale as snow cover began to melt. Obituaries for Clarence Plum Sr and Jennie Nipe
Clarence H. Plum Sr., 67, of Savanna died suddenly February 5 after a heart attack. A Milwaukee railroad engineer, he is survived by his widow Nan Gossard, a son Clarence Jr., and two sisters. Jennie B. Nipe, 84, of Mt. Carroll died February 11 after a paralytic stroke. A former Mt. Carroll teacher, she is survived by a brother and a nephew. Burial for both was in local cemeteries.

Carroll county rural mail carriers ask patrons on their routes to clear snow from rural mail boxes to allow delivery without leaving the vehicle. Deep drifts block many boxes, wasting time as carriers must exit and wade through snow to place mail. A few minutes with a shovel on the approach to boxes speeds mail delivery and is appreciated.

Turner Couple Marks 59th Wedding Anniversary
The 59th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. Turner was celebrated with a family dinner at their home Sunday. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. M. Hardacre and son Blaine of Lanark, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Hardacre and son Gregory of Polo, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Kendall, Dwight Turner and family, Rev. and Mrs. A. F. Klotz, and others. The Turners wed Feb 7, 1888, in the Fike home with Elder D. M. Miller presiding. They farmed on the Fike homestead until 1913, then moved to their current location. Frank Turner, born Feb 6, 1883 in Pine Hill, Pa, and Sarah Fike Turner, born Sept 8, 1863 in Somerset co., Pa, have been active in the Church of the Brethren. They have three children, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

A large crowd attended the public sale and prices for stock and produce were high. H. E. Green has been ill and absent from Morrison work. Allen Becker, formerly a Savanna hospital patient, has been released and at home. Mr and Mrs Ed Sack of Dixon visited Chadwick on Monday.
