A blaze at the Majestic theatre in Mt Carroll caused about 1000 dollars in interior damage to the lobby and projection booth on Monday around 1 30 pm. Firefighters from the city and volunteers contained the fire with hoses and chemical extinguishers, preserving most equipment and film though one reel was damaged. Floyd Alberts, the manager, moved film to safety while some seats and projection gear suffered heat and water damage. Insurance covered equipment and building, but some doubt remains.
Carroll county supervisors met in Mt. Carroll for their regular monthly session. They approved bills, bond of the county collector, and seven banks as county depositories. A resolution authorized issuing tax warrants to pay Mothers' pensions, usable against 1936 taxes and due May 1, 1937. session adjourned to March.
Several hundred pounds of food and nearly a ton of clothing were sent to St. Louis for flood refugees by Savanna citizens. The Savanna American Legion post organized the collection with help from Boy Scouts who canvassed house to house on Saturday. The Legion and its auxiliary set up in the Hansen and Johnson store building to receive donations, with reports noting almost every article of clothing gathered.
A number of Carroll county farmers plan to attend the State Farmers Institute in Rockford next week on February 17 to 19, despite icy roads. Farm Adviser M P Roske notes many will still go. exhibitors from county institutes will appear, with Dean Mumford of the University of Illinois among speakers.
Werner herd near Milledgeville set a January production record in Carroll County with an average of 60 pounds of butterfat and 1,571 pounds of milk across 10 purebred Holsteins. The top individual produced 93.4 pounds butterfat and 2,031 pounds milk. Edwin Keim’s Brown Swiss herd placed second. Eugene Murray’s Holsteins were third. Rush Carrel’s Holsteins fourth. W G Warnock’s Guernseys fifth.
Katherine Kelly 73 of near Savanna died last Thursday after a paralytic stroke. Funeral at St John’s Savanna Catholic. buried Savanna cemetery. Survivors include sister Bridget Doyle Moline, nieces W P Moran Morbridge and Paul Creaghan Rockford, nephew James Sullivan near Savanna. J L McKean Milledgeville 86 dies of pneumonia. Survived by three sons, four daughters, one sister, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren.
Banks in Carroll County will close on February 12 and February 22 in observance of the birthdays of Lincoln and Washington.
Near zero morning temperatures recall last year’s heavy snows but current highways in this section show ice and slick surfaces yet traffic keeps moving. Dense fog and a dust storm created a mud film that made roads slipperier, with several crashes including a truck on the Morrison Chadwick road and a skid into a ditch near Chadwick.

Rev I D Leatherman led a round table on Religious Drama and Pageantry. Dr Raymond B Culver announced future meetings at the same venue. membership has reached 35.
At the annual meeting in Mt Carroll the Mt Carroll Mutual Fire Insurance Company elected R. E. Boyd as president for a three year term succeeding B. Pratt. New director John Warner Lanark joins re elected Charles Harris Chadwick and James Dean Savanna for three year terms.
The will of William E. Cheeseman of Milledgeville was admitted to probate with property left to his widow Fanny. Judge Orion M. Grove presided. A second probate involved John M. Rinewalt of Mt. Carroll valued at about 12000 dollars. Mt. Carroll property goes to Hattie Shick Wells and a 1000 dollar bequest funds the Rinewall burial lot. remaining property goes to several Shirk family members.

About 25 local leaders joined an organization meeting in Milledgeville to plan a June drive. President Mossi outlined the 1937 Carroll County quota set at 68, hoping to raise it during the year. Hornbeck of the Small Agricultural Association spoke on Farm Bureau services at the local gathering.
After completing 1936 tax work in four Cabarrus county townships, Fair Haven Wysox and Elkhorn Grove show slightly lower totals than 1935, while York rises about 1800 due to increases in town road and bridge and corporation taxes. Carroll County Soil Conservation association held its annual meeting in Mt Carrol on Wednesday to elect officers for 193 land and plan soil conservation work with the ICCC erosion control camp. No results were available at press time. Officers listed for 1936 were President Charles Kingery Vice President Truman Roger and Secretary Jo Nan Jack. The group works with CCC erosion control services and is distinct from the county agricultural conservation association which handles farm program payments.
Carroll county Circuit court will be in session in Mt. Carroll on Tuesday Feb 15 with Judge Albert H Manus of Freeport presiding as reported by Circuit Clerk John R Gelwicks.
Three new members and an alternate were elected to the county allotment committee at the annual agricultural association meeting. Jennings Erdmeier was named chairman and Ray Moyer vice chairman. Ed Rahn and Ed Simon were named as a committee member and alternate. The group will set dates for final signup for the farm program and continue preparations for the current year.
Chadwick Co op Produce Co re elected Joh Miller and Charles F Schrein er to three year terms as directors at the annual stockholders meeting in Chadwick High School. Officers were reappointed. The Illinois Agricultural Auditing Division reported a solid year with net operating income and earnings funding a building purchase a new boiler and two electric pumps totaling about 2350. Profits allowed a patronage refund of 1284 50 based on milk deliveries. If conditions stay similar next year refunds may rise two to threefold.
