Five Hurt In Crash During Blinding Fog Near Savanna
Four Morrison youths and a 64 year old Savanna man were injured in an auto crash last Wednesday night near Savanna as fogblanketed the area. Loren Rick 17 of Morrison drove north on Route 80 and hit Charles Metz of Savanna who slowed with his head out to see the pavement. Rick then sideswiped Metz rear and lost control striking a telephone pole. Metz was later struck by a second car that failed to stop. Rick suffered a serious back injury and lacerations. Metz had a chipped ankle and a badly skinned ankle. Both were hospitalized for several days. Also injured were Glenn Jones 20 Emily Howe 16 and La Vonne Conrady 18. In a separate crash north of Savanna Mrs Laura Bance escaped with bruises when her coupe overturned after midnight. Wayne Brown escaped injury when his car was hit by a large oil truck near the Milwaukee viaduct in Savanna and thrown against a guard rail.

Five Month Old Dauphin Dies of Pneumonia in Savanna
Jason Charles Christian Dauphin five month old son of Mr and Mrs Carlos Dauphin of Savanna died of pneumonia at 845 am Saturday in Savanna city hospital after being ill for five days. Funeral services were held 230 pm Sunday at Law funeral home Savanna with burial in Savanna cemetery. Surviving are the parents two sisters paternal grandparents Dan and Mrs Dauphin of Savanna maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Charles Deuel of Lanark.

Carroll High Beats Shannon 48 to 31 in Conference Win
Carroll High remained undefeated in conference play by defeating Shannon 48 to 31 Friday night. Murney led Carroll with 22 points while Fisher had 10 for Shannon. A preliminary 28-22 Carroll win and a 26-8 Shannon win opened the evening. In the third quarter Shannon outscored Carroll 12-4 but Carroll finished strong 16-5 in the final period. Regular Republican candidates visit Mt Carroll February 1 for a 2 p.m. tally at the courthouse with Gov. Dwight Green and other state leaders expected to speak.
