Wide Fluctuating Temperatures Across Consecutive Days
The record shows rapid temperature swings from above freezing to well below zero over several days. Friday stayed above freezing, but by Saturday morning readings fell five to ten degrees below zero and stayed low through Sunday. By eight a.m. Monday the temperature rose toward zero and then near 50 degrees above, holding there through Monday.

Fire damages Mt Carroll home. several pieces burned
Fire of undetermined origin caused about 700 dollars damage at the Carlos Sehaut residence in Mt Carroll on January 23. Albert Kessler discovered the blaze at 1 30 p m. Firemen confined flames to the northeast section and prevented further loss. They had earlier responded to a chimney fire at the G E Mershon farm north of Carroll, tenanted by the Glenn Edwards family, with no damage.

County Cagers Struggle in Out of County Showdowns
Carroll county high school basketball teams faced tough losses this week with five local squads defeated in two-day play. Polo defeated Chadwick 53-22 in varsity and 60-28 in reserves on Monday as Buck led Polo with 13 points and Remmers had 10 for Chadwick. Tuesday saw Milledgeville fall to Sterling Community 21-16 in varsity and 65-17 in reserves, while Orangeville beat Lanark 48-36 with a 40-29 reserve win, Lena beat Shannon 44-22 and won prelim 51-20, and Mt.
