The Carroll County home bureau sponsored a January 30 style show at Shimer College with 225 attendees. Mrs. Paul Sites and Mrs. Edwin Keim led the event, showcasing wool dresses, suits, and spring coats in pinks, blues, and neutrals modeled by local residents and children.
Nina Lou Wilson 19 of Robinson Crawford county Namoi Drake 20 of Forreston Stephenson county Rodney G Ohm 21 of Grant Park Kankakee county and John L Altman 20 of Freeport Stephenson county will attend the National 4-H Club Camp in Washington D C next June. The four were announced by the state 4 H Club staff at the University of Illinois as representatives of Illinois 58 000 club members among delegates from all states and foreign countries. Selection honors leaders said to reflect leadership ability achievement and community activity.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Kreud er will move to Shannon from the Fred Nipe farm after twenty years in the community. Fred Nipe will hold a closing out sale Friday Feb 5 as the farm has been sold to Frank Tipton. Mrs Lavetta Schneider entertained guests Friday evening for her son Roberts birthday.
Thomas Ruchte 87 of Savanna died Friday after months of illness in his East Savanna home. Christian Science services were held in Fuller funeral home and burial in Linwood cemetery Dubuque Iowa. Mrs Sam Hengel 65 died of a heart attack at home in Savanna after a year of ill health. services were at Hunter's Fuller Memorial with burial in Savanna cemetery. Harry W Brown 75 of Savanna died in Clinton Iowa hospital after two weeks as a patient. burial in Bluff City cemetery Elgin. Weekly list of Home Economics Extension meetings for Feb 5 through Feb 12 across Old Mill Palisades West End Freedom Lanark Leaders and other communities. Each event notes location hostess time major lesson and special activity including Cake Decorating Candy Demonstration Swedish knitting and casserole dish exchanges.

Books for thirteen reading courses for homemakers are available from the Illinois state library. To complete a course you must read three or more books in a course. January results show Hook & Pratt leading Carroll No 1 West with 50.9 butterfat from 18 grade Holsteins and Mintke & Wallace topping Carroll No 2 with 43.4 butterfat from 19 grade Holsteins. The association averaged 30.9 butterfat from 628 cows in 24 herds.
Two petitions filed with the Carroll County board of trustees seek district changes. One withdraws signatures from an Argo-Fa district 77 annexation to Thomson grade district, while the other requests transferring about 900 acres west of Wacker from Mt. Carroll high to Savanna high school district. The area lies nine miles from Mt. Carroll and five miles from Savanna.
Early Wednesday involves icy highways caused by light rain that froze overnight. By afternoon, clear skies and rising temperatures melted the ice and snow, restoring most roads to normal conditions.

A Chestnut Park and Savanna high school graduate, she served nearly 18 years as Savanna city comptroller and later worked as assistant secretary at Savanna Savings Building and Loan. She was married to Dr. Philip Bryant of Elizabeth, who predeceased her, and she lived with her mother in Chestnut Park. Surviving are the mother, two sisters in Chicago and Freeport, a brother, and other relatives.
The Illinois high school association released district regional and sectional tourney pairings. District meets begin February 22 with regionals March 15 and sectionals opening March 10. Matches include Pearl City Shannon versus Pearl City and Thomson versus Chadwick, with winners advancing to Fulton regional.
Carroll County Chapter of the American Red Cross held a January meeting in Savanna with Walter Hedberg, field director for the district, and about 30 members from Milledgeville Lanark Mt. Carroll Thomson and Savanna. Savanna representatives included Elmer Struckman Albert M Greison Miss Mary Var caro Mrs H F Whitney and Charles L Reese. Hedberg spoke on Red Cross work and plans for civil defense first aid home nursing housing and mass feeding. Reese outlined the March county fund drive.
Carroll county feeders from Milledgeville and Lanark sent cattle and hogs to the Chicago Stock Yards on Monday. Prices showed hogs up to 27.00 per cwt, the highest since July 24, 1953, while cattle remained near last week's levels.
Four Chadwick 4-H clubs have organized for handicraft foods and clothing work led by Mrs. Boyd Handel Mrs. Denton Naniga and Miss Laura Daehler. Northwestern Illinois Gas and Electric petitions for a 9.3 percent rate rise, yielding about $98,300 yearly after tax from 10 communities. If approved, residential customers would pay roughly two cents more per day. Company cites rising operation costs and needs to fund expansion and modernization.

Illinois is assigned a 1954 savings bond goal of 457.3 million dollars for Series E and H bonds, about 86 percent of the national target of 5.3 billion. Two couples secured marriage licenses in the final week of January from County Clerk W. M. Nipe, with none issued by Wednesday morning in February. Couples listed include Joseph J. Beja of Springfield and Elen M. Merchant of Lanark, and Wayne Derrer and Fairy Brunner of Lanark. Carroll County circuit court session scheduled for Friday.
The Carroll County American Legion Auxiliary gathered at Shannon Legion Hall on a Wednesday evening with 53 attendees. Mrs. James Chaffee led the meeting, with representation from Lanark Mill edgeville Chadwick Carroll and Shannon. Shannon had the largest attendance. Mrs. Edith Ewing directed the program, with six ladies singing and Molly Woodard dancing, accompanied by Mrs. Catherine Truckenmiller at the piano. Audrey Stoner led the refreshments crew. The next gathering is planned for Thomson in March, date to be announced.
Patrons of the Fair Haven school held a card party at the school house last Friday evening. Proceeds of about 129 dollars will buy feeding chairs for prize winners. Winners included Mesdames Vernon Adolph Kyle Turny Vernon Alexander and Alfred Hartman Art St Clair and Harvey Wiersema. Mrs Kyle Turney led the candy booth. Refreshments were provided by Mesdames Kenneth Tripp Dewaine Baurely Donald Adolph Richard Adolph Alfred Hartman and Ernest Brown. Mr and Mrs Wm Janssen Mrs Flossie Adolph and daughter Lois returned Monday night from a Florida vacation.
Carroll county schools will close Thursday and Friday for a county institute at Mt. Carroll high school. Thursday's program, prepared by the Carroll County Education Association, features an exhibit on a century of Carroll education by the IEA Centennial committee and talks by Dean Ernest Hanson and Dean Robert Jamieson.
