York Community High School defeated Leaf River 14 13 to claim the Shannon tournament title. York led 1 0 at the end of the first quarter as Leaf River closed the gap late. Hook delivered a game winning basket with 17 seconds left. Byron and Shannon traded leads in the consolation game with overtime needed. Pier son sealed third for Byron with a lone basket. Car Collision On Icy Route Near Mt Carroll

Miss Mildred Weidman Savanna and Mr Fox Moline collided at the Route 52 78 junction south of Mt Carroll on an icy afternoon. Both cars escaped injury though damage was substantial with smashed fenders broken windows and toppled bumpers. The Weidman car struck Fox’s vehicle causing a spin and a bank-leaning slide to the east. Both cars drove on to Mt Carroll for repairs.

Drunken Driving Plea Leads to County Court Sentences

Lloyd Olson of Shannon and Albert Mandt of Cotca pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while intoxicated Friday afternoon before Judge H. J Ludens in Whiteside County Court. Each was sentenced to 30 days in the Whiteside county jail and their licenses suspended for 60 days. Shannon wrested with Olson, pled not guilty to a similar charge. His bond was set at $500, which he could not furnish.

The last eastern type waterpower flour mill near Milledgeville, built in 1857 by George W. Landon on Elkhorn Creek, has been torn down after sale to James Larber.
