Students and staff bustle with lessons and projects as new class aids are placed. Fragments show Christmas unit themes, a December project, and an Education World Letter activity. A concert by band and glee club is planned for late January amid holiday activities and staff travel notices.
Miss Evelyn Halm of Chicago will travel Friday to visit over Christmas with her parents Mr and Mrs Rudolph Holn at Argo. Other guests at their home on Christmas will be Mr and Mrs Wilt Holm and Mr and Mrs Fred Peters and family. Louis Strauch visited several days this week with his son Calvin. Christmas guests in the Chas e Ginty home will be their sons from Champaign and Carroll from Rockford with Mr and Mrs Emer in McGinty and son Thomas from Aberdeen South Dakota. Mr and Mrs Claude Grim and children were supper guests last Thursday in Clinton. Mrs Harry Evans of Clinton visited Monday with her sister Mrs L S Sears. Mrs Robert Herrity, also of Clinton, was a weekend visitor in the Sears home. Stacy Potter returned to Thom son Tuesday after spending several weeks in San Pedro California visiting Gilbert Holland and Donald Enmnett. Mr and Mrs Gornelius Nordhoff visited Sunday with her grandparents Mr and Mrs Dave Sturtevant to Shannon.
Thomson led by Coach Sherman and York eagers won opening games in the Shannon local high school tournament at Shannon. They defeated Forreston Tuesday, Orangeville on Tuesday, and Shannon on Wednesday, setting up a championship clash between Thomson and Kank River while a Shannon Byron playoff precedes it.
The Baptist Sunday School invites the public to York Baptist Church for a Christmas program on Friday at 8 o'clock. The program lists recitations and songs by the Livewire and Junior classes, a mixed quartet, and a congregation singalong, with several named participants.
Locals report weekend guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stage include their children Charlies Stage Joanne Stage and Mr and Mrs Paul Stage with other Stage relatives from Rock Island. Kenneth Kemmer of Morrison joins. Henry Parsons Nellie Parsons to host Monday dinner after Christmas in the Will Fink home Chadwick. Dahler family to hold a gathering as Martin Williams visits Ustick with his father Luther Williams.
A simple eight o clock ceremony at the Ebenezer Reformed church parsonage in Morrison united Miss Everdena Hook and Charles Ottens Jr. The couple, both well known in their area, tied the knot on the bride’s birthday with attendants Miss Elsie Hook and Clarence Ottens. The bride wore a wine colored silk chiffon velvet frock and matching accessories, the bridesmaid a brown crepe dress. They will reside on the Ottens parents’ farm east of the Bluffs after renting the place.
Mr and Mrs Ernest Juartz and family will attend a Friday Deg 24 celebration for the 50th wedding anniversary of Will and Will Lartz of Argo hosted by Mr and Mrs Austin Phillips south of Savanna. Dinner at noon and open house 2 to 4 and 7 to 10. Attending relatives include Mrs Albert Frank Mrs William Vrank Mrs W H Mediske Mrs Wayne Wileke and Mrs William Mart with their families.
The Baptist Sunday school at 104 plans a chart presentation this Friday evening inviting the public to attend. The Live n class met Tuesday with Thelma and Irene Schick. contests and Christmas practice were held. An exchange of gifts occurred and refreshments followed.
Harold and aides announce Sunday school at 10 o clock and worship service at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome. Friday afternoon the primary Sunday school department hosts a Christmas party in the church basement from 2 to 4 o'clock. An attendance contest yields winners who are to be entertained by the losers.
Sunday services listed include Catholic Mass at 8:00 a.m. and York Community Morning Worship at 9:00 a.m. Sunday school at 9:00 a.m. Ideal church hosts a Sunday school at 10:00 a.m. Young people meet at 7:00 p.m. with preaching at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Sword is pastor. Pioneer class gathered Tuesday at Mrs. Robert Groharing’s home to stitch comforts for St. Louis Orphan’s Home. Della Isenhart led the youth meeting and music was provided by William and Arletta Hartman and Della Isenhart. Everyone is welcome in Ideal.
Entreating families across towns gathered for Christmas dinners. Claude Grim hosted guests including Sherman Oakley Verna Helen Glen Bower Dale Mayden and Clinton, Harlan Johannsen Fulton, and Lyle Ashby with Jimmie Green and Gill Geerts of Albany. Wesley Envess hosted children and J at home. Lyle Williams hosted Weston Smith and family of Savannah and Leonard 1st 10. 7 Mr and Mrs Harvey Marshall visited Bert Stainbrook. Groharing Morrison Leona Nelson Morris Fay Groharing ProphTown and Arthur Hoffman Chadwick attended at their daughter’s home.
Mrs. Fred Doden, John Green, H L Rawlins, Richard Groharing, Diana Lee Dichl, and Will Griswold are listed as ill or hospitalized. Scarlet fever and severe cold are noted among the cases. Several residents were confined to beds or hospitals during the period.
Lois Marie daughter of Mr and Mrs Elmer Wavis of Hanover born at Dane Laiwh Hospital in Clinton on Wednesday Vou 22. Michael John son of Mr and Mrs Walkece Willits north of Savanna born Sunday evening Dec 19 at Savanna City Hospital. Mrs Williams, formerly Mary Switzer, is daughter of Mr and Mrs C K Switzer of Thomson and granddaughter of Mr and Mrs HW A Wrancke.
Gus L. Perido longtime Clinton resident died after a three year illness at his home at 20 McKinsey Street. He was born Jane 2 1860 in Dassourd and moved to Clinton with his parents at three. He lived in Elk River and worked locally. Survived by wife Mempan Mickelson and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Tuesday at Mrs Herman Mickelson home, Rev Albert Clark officiating. Burial in Smith cemetery Almont. Pallbearers named. Also York township rural teachers plan a Reading meeting with Mrs Libbie Ruppel on Wednesday Dec 29.
Mee atl Mee and Benest Smith celebrated their third anniversary with a dinner last night at the country home. Guests included Merle Turney, Chadwick, and other local families.
Obituary of Madge Carpenter Lamb Bower recounts birth on the Lamb farm near Argo in 1895, education at Argo school and Francis Shimer College, musical talent, and a 1913 marriage to Vernon H. Bower. Survived by her aged father, four children Margaret Mildred Charles and Alice, and many friends. Interment in Argo Cemetery after services at the Argo house and Methodist Church.
Paul Kenneth Lillie, two and a half months old, died at home in Lockport after a brief illness. The body was taken to Mrs. Lillie’s parents in Morrison for funeral services led by Rev. Harald Dude at the Methodist church. Burial was in Lower York Cemetery. He was born September 11, 1927, in Clinton, IA, and is survived by his parents, one sister Jean, maternal grandparents A. C. Lite and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith, and several uncles and aunts.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to friends and neighbors for kindness and sympathy after the death of their little son and grandson. Ate and Mas, Cycad Lillie A, C. bi Me. and Mes. Frank Smith.
The Carpenter family thanks all who offered kindness after the loss of Mrs C. Carpenter. They honor the pastor, singers, pallbearers, and all who assisted in any way during the bereavement.

The Consolidated school held its Christmas program and operetta last evening to a well received audience. Students and teachers will break for the holiday as the school closes today. Family travel plans and local social guests are listed, including Miss Higgs, Mrs Hastings, Miss Burns, and the Hemmer family, with references to Merberk Rawlins and Donald Ashpole as the new carrier for the Chicago Daily News. The Christos program at the Argo school was postponed due to a pupil with scarlet fever.
Christmas Eve program on Thomson main street features Santa Claus arrival with candy for children grade school age and under. Event includes songs, prayers, and talks by Mayor B R Lewis and James J Sheridan as grade school pupils perform. Families Gather for tree lighting and festive bulbs.
Mrs Eugene Murray hosted the Chat-A-White club Christmas gathering with a tree and grab bag. Children enjoyed a grab bag as well in a festive afternoon at her home yesterday. The Thomson 500 club also met last week with prize winners announced and two substitutes listed. The Methodist Ladies Aid plans a January meeting at Mrs Arthur Pape's home with officers installed Jan 18 and a potluck scramble dinner. Thomson Masonic lodge elected officers including W M Paul Daehler and secretary R Houghton at the Tuesday meeting.

Mr and Mrs George St Ores entertain at Christmas dinner with children and families from Davenport Savanna Morrison and other relatives. M F E church program and supper last Friday drew large attendance and praise. Miss Athlone Gaar visits Caledonia family for Christmas vacation. Arthur Pape to Stockton then with Hiubert Williams family. Anna Henke departs Tulsa for winter with Ednn Elgin. Emerson McGinty and son Thomas of Aberdeen SD arrived to spend holidays with Jess McGinty and relatives.
Funeral services for S. C. Carpenter who died December 14 were held Friday afternoon at 1 o clock in the Methodist church with Rev. Griffith of Savanna officiating. Mrs Garrett Sterenberg and Mrs W N French sang while Sylvalena Bolhous was accompanist. Pallbearers included Robert Groharing Verne Williams Ely Cochran Don Hall Guy Brown and Baylard BR Lewis. Interment followed in the Argo-Fa cemetery.
Christmas day plans include visitors to John Sauer and Will Griswold homes with relatives from Imel Sauer Estinger Hoes Margray Carroll and Houghtons Porter Hollinshead Sullivan Orcutt and St Ores. Griswold patient at Jane Lamb hospital will join family for dinner later return to hospital.
Preparations for the Fair Haven Church Christmas program on December 24 at 7 30 are complete. The public is invited to attend and enjoy a program featuring songs scripture prayers and readings including A Christmas Candle Life Town of Bethlehem and The Little Mothers Story with participants Marilyn Nelson Bert Nelson and others.
