Chadwick Man Shoots Wife Then Ends His Life in Home
Chadwick Juius Eickert, 60, fatally shot his wife Hazel then killed himself Friday at their Chadwick home. Mrs. Eickert died at a Freeport hospital the same evening. A Carroll county coroner's jury ruled the death a suicide after an inquest. Eickert had recently been released from East Moline state hospital to care of a daughter. Deputy sheriffs and state police found him dead at the foot of basement stairs after a shotgun blast. A frightened three year old boy was cared for nearby.
