County Provides Two-way Radio For Game Warden Car

County funds will equip the auto of Paul Hensal state conservation officer for Carroll County with a two-way radio. The system will share frequency with sheriff radios to boost cooperation among law enforcement. The board also prepared a plan to urge lawmakers to fund improved conservation officer equipment at the upcoming session.

Start Making Loans on 1954 Corn Crop

The Carroll County ASC office begins accepting applications for loans and purchase agreements on the 1954 corn crop. Farmers with proof of compliance with government acreage allotments are eligible and guaranteed parity at $1.62 per bushel. In 1953 the office processed loans on 218000 bushels with parity at $1.60. Officials estimate 20 percent of county farmers complied.

Lanark Grades Sweep Chadwick In Two Wins

Lanark Grade School basketball teams defeated Chadwick Monday night on the Chadwick floor. The lightweights led 21-8 at halftime and finished 43 to 10. The heavies built a 16-7 first quarter edge, 29-9 at the half, and rolled to a 53-19 final. Chadwick players battled hard but Lanark showed strong floor play and scoring.

Chadwick high varsity beat Rock Falls 58 52 while freshman and sophomore squads also won. Janssen led the frosh sophs, Derrickson and Donnel top scorers for Rock Falls, and Weber and Coden starred for Chadwick. Lanark Beavers rallied to defeat Mt Carroll 53 46. Shannon high school beat Lanark 73 60 in a Carroll County Conference game on Tuesday night. Wayne Brinkmeier led Shannon with 19 points while Rostron led Lanark with 16 as Shannon improved to five wins in eight starts. The Shannon freshman soph squad also won 56 26 marking its ninth straight win. Morrison Morrison captured its first Hiona conference victory 58 21 over Savanna, leaving Savanna at 0 3.

Car Crash Near Thomson Leaves Driver Uninjured

Lawrence Almquist of Fulton escaped injury when his car overturned on Route 80 north of Thomson. The vehicle left the highway near the Jesse Jurgens farm, rolled, and suffered heavy damage with the top crushed. Almquist reported only a bump on the head and a sore shoulder after exiting the car.
