The board of supervisors met in December with full attendance and reviewed semi annual fiscal reports. Balances as of December 1 1937 show General fund 84.02 dollars, Mother’s pension fund 6292.60, county highway 14244.74, tuberculosis sanatorium 4886.21, dog license 1 345 institute fund 758.88, non-high seller fund 3929.47, state's attorney 2840.40, non-resident heir fund 5209.61. Earnings figures from circuit clerk county clerk and county treasurer indicate payments into the county and deductions for salaries and operations, with balances returned to the county treasurer.
A Carroll native, born north of Carroll and a 1946 Carroll High School graduate, is named to a post in Jo Daviess County by farm bureau leaders. He is a University of Illinois agriculture graduate and has served six years as assistant farm adviser in Sangamon County with headquarters in Springfield. His family plans to move to Elinabeth this month.
The county board of supervisors selected Jacme Ghadwick as intendent of the Carrel County Farm Tussity, succeeding ill health retiree Wille jam Christian. Kyle Turney will assume duties March 1988, with 29 years of service in the farm office. Carroll County Agricultural Association directors met Monday afternoon at the farm office in Carroll to set up a revised budget guiding activities through February 28, 1938. The session aimed to plan for the year 1938 and adjust programs accordingly.
Forty three county residents were summoned Tuesday by the dean of supervisors to serve as grand jurors for the March circuit court term. The regular panel has 23 names, supplemented by 20 jurors as required by state law. The list includes Washington, Woodland, Salem, Savanna, York and Fair Haven areas with many named individuals across towns and townships.

William Kennedy of Savana was bound over to the March term of circuit court after a hearing before Justice at the Savanna Police By CL Ward. The suspect faced larceny charges, bond was set at $1,000, and he was released pending further proceedings.
Five Carroll County stockmen sold hogs at top prices on the Chicago market this week. A shipment of 166 pound butchers owned by Fred Engleking brought 8.50 per cwt. 260 pound weights sold at 8 per cwt. John Schmitzer offered 220 to 222 pound hogs around 8. The sale included 2760 pound butchers from William Butissiemer at 7.85 per cwt. Prices held at top for multiple weights and shrinkage was light.
Alumni of Carroll High School announce their annual banquet and dance to be held soon at the new high school. The committee includes Brendon Kneale and Mrs Ruth Preston. officers listed and several attendees named. Program and nominating roles assigned to local community members with a dance segment led by Arthur Robbe and Leighton Smith.
Carroll County growers have filed 10 corn loan applications through Wednesday morning, with officials noting limited interest or eligibility. The federal program requires full compliance for benefit eligibility, and loans run 10 months with a possible extension at 4 percent interest. Applications are available at the local conservation office each weekday.
Four young men from Pallon, Marvin and Paul Balk, Otto Van Varen and Albert Grady, were arrested Tuesday by game wardens on a charge of hunting rabbits with no mechanical ferret near the All County Farm. At a hearing they were fined $15 and costs each. The Balk brothers paid their fines while the others chose to board out their fines and were sent to the county jail in Mt. Carroll.

Preston Prairie farmer Harvey Downing, 26, was kicked in the forehead by a horse while showing the team to neighbor Charles Kessler on the William James farm near Wacker. He was treated at Freeport hospital where a bone fragment was removed and remained several days for care.

The list includes Welcome by Bernard and Bernice Hartman, songs, recitations by Vera Kreuder Mildred Kreuder Marvin Hartman Violet Hartman and others, dialogues The Battle of Brown and Just Before Christmas, instrumental solo by Helen Hans, drill by nine girls, readings by Anna Kreuder Andrew Prins Laura Manning, and news coverage by Helen Hans Ruth Hartman with Laura Daehler as teacher.
Carroll County Farm Bureau and Carroll Service Company name nominees at unit meetings. January 7 is the date for the annual gathering in Mt. Carroll where officers and directors will be elected. Nominees include George Adolph and Leonard Porter for Farm Bureau and Service Company respectively, with several townships yet to nominate.
Rev. R H Leitner pastor of Mt Carroll Baptist church slipped on an icy sidewalk near the high school Saturday night. He was found by Betty Noble and taken home before being moved to St Francis hospital in Freeport. Services will be led by visiting pastors until his recovery.
Mr and Mrs William Lartz of near Mt Carroll plan to observe their golden wedding anniversary on Friday December 24. The celebration will be at the home of their son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Austin Phillips south of Savanna with family dinner at noon and open house for friends from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 10 pm.
Mark Altensey, 19, of Mt Carroll, pleaded guilty to assault and battery and was fined 100 dollars and costs by Justice Frank Schroeppel. Unable to pay, he was jailed in the county jail for 21 days to serve the fine and costs.
State school distributive funds totaling 2856.61 were distributed to Carroll county school districts Monday from Lawrence E Bradi county superintendent. This sum represents the county area share of state funds for November.
Seventeen top spellers from Carroll County grade schools and rural districts gather in Mt. Carroll at 10 a.m. Saturday for the county spelling championship. Preliminary contests were held Friday in seven rural districts and in town schools, with one representative from each town to face the rural winners.
Motorists faced heavy snow Monday with seven inches in a week and icy Tuesday after rain. Snow plows cleared highways by evening while winds and drifting created slick pavements and several slide offs, but few serious accidents were reported.
