York herd of dairy cows tops 17 herds in Carroll County test
Holland and Pratts mixed herd led the Carroll County Dairy Herd Improvement Association test in November with 829 pounds of milk and 37.8 fat. Miss Evelyn Asay earned about 4333 from prize awards at the International Livestock Show in Chicago and other showcases for her steer Sarge. The animal sold Thursday for 5500 at 330 a pound to Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. of Akron, matching a prior Marine price when a 1938 grand champion sold for 335 a pound. Sarge weighed 1060 pounds at sale, down from 1087 at show.

Escape Hurt In Crash West Of Mount Carroll
Milton Kuhleman and Robert Johnson, both of Mount Carroll, escaped injury when Kuhleman’s car rear ended a truck on State Highway 64 west of Mount Carroll last Wednesday night. The truck driver, John Noonan of Bellevue, Illinois, was unhurt after his wiring burned out and he placed a flare before the truck and prepared another behind it.
