Humane Society Buys Site For Animal Shelter
The Carroll County Humane Society has purchased land on relocated State Highway 64 in the south Mt. Carroll area for a county shelter to be built in spring. The group, formed in July 1959, currently runs the Savanna Humane Shelter for city animals and relies on Mrs. Harvey Collin for county cases. In the past year 195 dogs and 43 cats were cared for and placed. The new shelter will serve animals from throughout the county and follows years of fund raising and growth to 235 members with officers including President Mrs. D. C. McGinnis and Board Chair Mrs. Duane Cheeseman.

Hold Savanna Man for Grand Jury
Larry La Secure, 18, of Savanna was bound over to the Carroll County grand jury on a nighttime breaking and entering charge. Police found 500 packs of cigarettes and whiskey in his car after arrests tied to Friday break-ins at The Village and Palisades Bowl. La Secure, formerly of La Crosse, had lived in Savanna about four months.

Miss Svea Adolphson a veteran English teacher at Savanna high school was chosen as the 1962 Illinois Teacher of the Year by the state Department of Public Instruction.
