County Opposes Diversion of Motor Fuel Tax Funds
Car roll county supervisors voiced opposition to any plan diverting motor fuel tax funds at the December meeting. Airman Basic Gary A. Shaw grandson of Mr and Mrs H Bender of Savanna Illinois is reassigned to Amarillo AFB Texas for technical training as a United States Air Force supply specialist. Buildings Razed by Flames at Switch Factory
Fire at S and S Frame Co. north of Mt Carroll destroyed two buildings and contents causing about 75000 in damage. Firefighters fought the blaze from about 4 p m until after 8 p m. The woodworking shop owned by John Swiech and son employed 14 men. The fire started in the paint spraying area, possibly sparked by an exhaust fan. No injuries reported and Swiech home alongside survived with some salvage. Insurance partial coverage noted.
