Preparations for the annual corn and poultry show in Milledgeville, sponsored by the Future Pacers association, are nearly complete for December 6 and 7. The event offers about 70 dollars in cash and merchandise prizes, with new classes added and no entry fee this year. A rural school prize of 1.50 goes to the district with the most entries.
Charles Kingery was named president of the Carrell county soil conservation association at a Mt Carroll meeting. Truman Roger and Julian Jack were elected vice president and secretary treasurer respectively. About 200 farmers show interest in enrollment, with a $2 service fee and 30 cent annual dues. Plans include winter work to lift land, with labor from a local CCC camp. A state survey lists 75 to 100 lime stone pits and 10 grinders available for farm use in the county.
Mrs Lucille Traum daughter of Mr and Mrs George Traum of Mt Carnell married last Wednesday night in Freeport to Barry Grazde of Freeport. Rev C A Bloomquist pastor of Embas M E Church officiated with attendants Mr and Mrs W H Martin of Freeport. The body of the late John Hemb ert prominent Chadwick citizen was laid to rest in Lanark cemetery on Monday afternoon. A large number of Chadwick friends and relatives accompanied the body here.
Savanna stores will stay open evenings through Christmas as merchants prepare for holiday shoppers. A Santa Claus visit is planned for Monday, December 23, and Main Street lamp posts are festooned with evergreens and red and green bulbs. Weave lights will again span the streets with large lighted stars to be placed soon.
Theodore Lux of Savanna was severely cut Friday morning while cutting down a tree near Argo-Fa. The axe slipped, slicing a deep gash in his left leg below the knee. The bone was exposed to about half an inch, requiring several stitches to close the wound.

Miss Thelma Plager a tutor employed in a state institution at Wilmington was taken to Freeport hospital after falling from a car on highway 2 west of Shannon She drove the car with her mother and sister riding They were returning from visiting relatives when the door failed to close and she fell onto the pavement The others escaped injury and a passing motorist brought her to a Shannon physician before hospital transfer
The county clerk recorded several marriage licenses issued last week. On November 27 George Nagert of Milwaukee and Merry Rima of Savanna obtained a license. On November 30 Ernest Kirchner and Daisy Met Coley of Hanover were licensed. Also on November 30 Wallace Wilms, Mr Carrol, and Mary A. Switzer of Thom son were licensed. On November 27 Edwin A. Gerdes of Mille Led geville and Irene Hinrichs of Coleia secured a license.
County Treasurer Frank Rosa released final figures for 1934 taxes showing 531,767.18 paid of assessed 557,428.41 with 25,660.93 delinquent and 95.39 percent collected. Cherry Grove leads at 99.51 percent paid, Shannon 99.08. Township by township figures include Washington 97.12 percent, Woodland 95.4, Freedom 90.18, Cherry Cove 87.? through Wysox 97.05, Elkhorn Grove 94.87.
Mt Carroll health officer De P Colehour reports five current scarlet fever cases within the city and five more in a farm family west of town. Some students from the Mt Carroll schools have contracted the illness in prior years, but no serious outbreak is anticipated.
First consignment of 1926 automobile license plates mailed from Bringfield Saturday. Over the counter sale started at noon Wednesday at the Springfield office and the branch in Chicago. Several drivers display new plates after ordering early to have old numbers reassigned.
Four youths from Lanark and Chadwick escaped serious injury when a car failed to negotiate a curve on highway 52 by the old fairgrounds west of Mt Carroll. St Clair suffered a scalp wound. Faye Bowers had minor cuts and bruises. The top of a telephone pole broke, bringing down cables and collapsing the car roof. Repair crews worked late to restore damage.
Edwin Keim Ward Weidman and Earl Keim report Carroll County Herd Improvement results for November. Stransdale Farm No. 1 Holstein herd leads with 785 pounds milk and 29.8 fat, four of five top cows from that herd. Ben Williamson follows at 769 pounds and 27.2 fat, then Edwin Keim at 638 pounds and 27.1 fat. Ward Weidman’s herd places fourth with 693 pounds and 26.3 fat.
County records show fourteen marriage licenses issued in the past month. Other items note Sansone sentenced to 18 months in federal penitentiary at Freeport, and local officials planning holiday decorations and events for farmers, with tax collections and various community notices.
Ernest Sansone of Chicago was sentenced by Federal Judge Major to 18 months in a federal pen after pleading guilty to escaping custody of an attorney general representative. He had been serving a sentence for violating the internal revenue act and escaped from Stephenson County Jail a day before trial on an armed robbery charge. He must also complete the remaining 18 months on the prior sentence and serve 46 days for a fine-related court costs.
Foster L. Stare praises John Humbert for 64 years of life and service to Chadwick. Humbert's leadership as postmaster, commitment to law and community, and cheerful dedication are honored as the town mourns his death and reflects on his strong values and civic example.
Defense moves to exclude plant as evidence after arrest in Clinton theft. Judge declines plea. Circuit court in Mt Carroll settles jury to hear case of C R Dennison with 16 jurors named and expected testimony from Meyers deputy Hensal Sheriff Shepherd and others. The theft involved a farm electric power plant taken May 15 from Meyers cabin two miles northwest of Thomson.
Fifty two persons faced charges and were confined in Mt. Carroll county jail during the first year of Sheriff Eber Shepherd’s term. The year ended Dec 3, with arrests and charges including petty larceny, disorderly conduct, drunkenness, forgery, and assault. most violations described as minor. One inmate faced murder charges, with the case listed as self defense.
Mrs El Geen of Savanna was named president of the Auxiliary unit followed by Hazel Shaw as treasurer. Joseph Gariman of Hanover, former commander of the Shaw Leavens post, was elected chaplain at the Veterans of Foreign Wars council meeting in Freeport.
