For livestock and dairy farmers the outlook favors 1948 with high cattle hog prices and profitable stocker feeder purchases if feed supplies hold. Building repairs should be selective with some purchases like nails wire glass linseed oil and turpentine advised to be bought now to avoid delays or higher prices.

Lanark high school beat Chadwick 43 to 18 on Lanark floor last Tuesday in Carroll conference play. Lanark reserves won 19 to 14 in the preliminary game. Score by quarters shows Lanark leading 16 to 8 after the first, 11 to 0 in the second, and 14 to 6 in the third.

Carroll County Chapter elects officers and plans March of Dimes
Officers for the Carroll County chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis were elected at the annual meeting and dinner at Meek's Bakery Lanark on Tuesday evening November 25. The group of over 15 members supervisors and guests discussed plans for the January March of Dimes campaign. Icey Highways Cause Accidents
Two automobile accidents last week, blamed on slippery highways, left vehicles damaged with no injuries. On Thanksgiving Day Eugene Boos of Clinton Iowa owned car driven by Arthur R Young of Earlville IA skidded on Highway 80 north of Savanna and rolled after veering to avoid a sudden stop. Another crash occurred Friday on Main Street Savanna when James B Rich slowed to avoid a truck pulling away and Ore Hamilton failed to stop in time, causing heavy damage to both vehicles.

Carroll Man Escapes Injury In Furnace Blast
Charles Neuschwanger Mt Carroll township highway commissioner narrowly escaped serious injury when a storage building furnace exploded as he tossed cardboard into it. The blast shattered 42 windows and ripped his clothing though he was unhurt. Sheriff Truninger found no tampering evidence.

A hectic storm week delivered heavy snow last Wednesday creating a white Thanksgiving. Subzero readings plagued Friday through Sunday before a warmup on Monday and Tuesday.
