At a Springfield Republican Day gathering last week key speakers urged a party reconstruction amid tax and extravagance issues. Stransky was discussed as a potential US Senate nominee without his consent, with other names like Searcy Dok Jsen and Lyons also floated as possible candidates.
The Lanark parade showcased float and car winners including Blackhawk Produce Co first in floats and The National Bank of Lanark second in cars. Judges praised float design with honors for Lanark Decorated Cars and notable performances by Lone team entries, juvenile winners announced by the general chairman, amid post parade festivities and band procession.

Carroll County cattle were among the high entries at Chicago this week with Angus and stock cattle showing strong demand. Riky Lotybaugh of Lanark promoted self feeding for faster gains, stocking cattle with corn cottonseed and molasses, finishing indoors for market. Cattle prices at Chicago rose to season highs not seen since 1919 and the month’s peak since November 1923.
Mount Carroll among 88 Illinois cities listed to receive new post office buildings under a $70 million public binding program approved by the House Appropriations Committee last week. The Treasury will select projects for immediate construction, with announcements after Congress passes the bill. Each funded project receives about $70,000 under the plan.
Mi Darrow, a 15 year old, is married with four children. Two attend Jvigh school. Mi and Mr Darrow expect to arrive in Savanna. The week’s events point to the school starting Monday August 30.
Mary Hellaws of Milledgeville was granted a divorce from Albert Bellowa in circuit court on Tuesday of last week Judge Albert Manug will hold another session of circuit court here on Friday September 10.
A survey of 1936 gubernatorial votes shows Carroll County having the smallest delegation in the Lith Jude Wy ckcuit Republican and Democratic judicial conventions. Republicans get nine and 423-500ths votes and Democrats eight 201-300ths at the district meet. Freeport hosts the GOP on Oct 11 with 76 delegates, each possessing one Hull vote. other districts use fractional votes. Stephenson County tops both conventions with 20 and 42 500ths at Republicans and 20 and 468 500ths at Democrats. Ogle and Lee follow in both, with Daviess County limited to 1L and 319 500ths Republican and 9 and 328 500ths Democratic votes.
Marvin Molton and Havid Grum Smitt of Lavinna were hurt Thursday when Moltman’s car left Route 52 east of Savannah, rolled five times after gear locked on a curve. Moltman suffered a broken finger and multiple bruises while Smitt had a severe scalp wound and chin cut. The car struck three fence posts before stopping, occupants escaping through the roof.
James Landt of Lanark was fined 10 dollars and costs by Justice Piciah Schroeppel in Mt Caroll. Landt received a four month driving ban after a reckless driving case. Schroeppel also ordered Lindenel to operate in dutemohle for the next four months.
Carroll county schools announce new leadership and staff for Chadwick Community High and York Community High, with superintendents, coaches, and teachers named across history, languages, arts, commerce, science, and technical subjects.
Bill Traum, WROK Man on the Street host and Musical Clock producer, will take a week off from two programs this week. Sy Miss Kaye Kreamer, director of women's activities and dramatics, notes Traum plans rest and idea gathering. Three new programs he will produce will air in September.
Charles F Thompson, 73, longtime director of state conservation, died Sunday in Chicago after gall bladder surgery. Appointed five years ago by Gov Henry Sterner, he worked to protect wild game and fish and his funeral is set for Wednesday at his Chicago home.

County Clerk Winter R. Watson lists three marriage license applications for August. Waltham G Hansen of Savanna and Henrietta Nehrkorn also of Savanna filed on August 18. Mark Brown of Rockford and Doris Dameier of Lena filed on August 22. Harold E Evans of Chicago and Berniee Alyce Hansen of Chicago filed August 22.
Clyde Boyle of Lanark was elected president of the Carroll County Old Settlers association at the last Thursday meeting, succeeding Q E B Newcomer. Frank Woessne of Shannon became vice president, with R Breneman and H B Puterbaugh re-elected as secretary and treasurer. Rev G T Ronk gave the history address on the immigrant trail of American pioneers, stressing youth, danger, and the epic westward march.
In Woodland and Freedom townships voters authorized borrowing funds for local road and bridge construction in last Tuesday's elections. Woodland approved 4600 for grave roads by 7 to 28, while Freedom saw only 12 ballots cast for 4506 to build four bridges with one vote against.
Farm operators in fourteen townships filed inspection requests under the 1937 agricultural program. Up to Saturday 21 593 requests were filed with Elver Ensteller, Mt Carroll secretary. County and township totals are listed, with Mt Carroll reporting 74 and Sharon Ty 36 among others. Farm reporters and assistants attended training at Mt Carroll on Aug 16. Elver Ensteller named county performance supervisor.
Mrs Marc McCarter of Sterling sustained severe injuries in a noon hour head-on collision on Route 52 near the Fairground school south of Mt Carroll. She, her six year old son Eugene, and three others were bruised or scratched. McCarter transported to Savanna hospital. The Pontiac driven by B J Bressler Sterling, and a Chevrolet driven by B J Whipple Madison Wis, collided at a sharp corner when Whipple allegedly veered left. Whipple lightly injured. others treated for bruises. Both cars damaged and towed to local garages. Whipple admitted fault and offered to settle damages. Also noted: Mrs LouS Daehler resigned from Unionville school to teach in Lanark.
