At least five Carroll county rural schools have not secured teachers for the new year. L. E. Bruch the county school superintendent reports that a few instructors are still needed in some city schools. Rural schools begin the new year on Sept 2 or Sept 3. A few open Aug 26. First Polio Case Reported in Savanna
The first poliomyelitis case in Savanna this year was confirmed by spinal puncture last week. Ten year old Donald Simmons, son of Mrs. Melvin Cook, Chestnut Park, was examined by Dr. Ruth Church of the district health office and reassured the public there is no cause for alarm. He will remain at home unless his condition worsens.

Collins 50 a California tourist died about 8 a m Tuesday at the Savanna tourist home of Mr and Mrs Lavie Logan where he and his wife spent the night He died of a heart attack per county coroner Dr J B Schreiter They were en route from Detroit to Martinez California Mrs Collins awakened to his heavy breathing and he died minutes later He is survived by his widow his mother and two half brothers Mrs Tillie V Turney is recovering at McCleary hospital in Excelsior Springs Missouri expected to stay two or three weeks.

Storms Cut Across Area Causing Damage and Fires
Heavy rain and a severe electrical storm struck the area early Saturday, delivering over three inches of rainfall. A second storm hit Sunday morning with strong winds but short duration. Lightning sparked at least three farm fires north and west of Morrison, while Dr. H. Holmes faced major loss as a cement block wall collapsed in a bungalow under construction on Main Street Chadwick. Electric service was interrupted for hours when a transmission pole fell, then briefly again during the morning.
