Elmer Bickert 23 of Chadwick and Ralph Steger 34 of Lanark were treated at Deaconess hospital Freeport after a collision about 1 15 am on a highway east of Lanark. Both men suffered broken noses and other injuries. police investigated the crash.

Bar Pierces Rail Worker Thigh Near Milledgeville
Charles Johnson, a Burlington railroad worker from Galena, had his inner thigh pierced by a heavy steel bar while riding on a motor car near the Milledgeville crossing. The bar passed through the thigh without breaking bone or damaging major vessels. He was treated by Dr. A A Calkins in Chadwick and later sent to Freeport hospital. recovery depends on infection.

Frederick Getz, a Mt. Carroll farmer, was named highway commissioner of Mt. Carroll township on August 21 replacing resigning Charles Neuschwanger. The OPA district office announced eight suit filings for the week Aug 16 23 seeking damages totaling 42275 34. One case charges Roman H Kluck of Savanna operating Savanna Motor Sales and Kluck Motor Sales with retail overcharge sales of used cars between Nov 14 1945 and May 31 1946 and failure to issue warranty certificates. Overcharges total 2556 63 and the complaint asks 7669 89 or three times the overcharge amount.
