Thomson Community Fair Winners Told

The first Thomson Community Fair held August 5 was very successful. Winners across Beef, Dairy, Ponies, Rabbits, Legume Hay, Mixed Hay, Tomatoes, Vegetables, Eggs, Canning Vegetables, Pickles, Jam, Flower Arrangements, Sewing, Handicraft, Hobbies and Pet Parade are listed with top placements. The Thomson Lions Club thanks exhibitors and hopes for more interest next year.

August church service changes in York area listings

The York area church notices list summer schedule changes. York Community Church will suspend all services August 6 and 13 with classes resuming August 20. Methodist, York Baptist, Spring Valley Reformed, Catholic, Ideal Community Bible Church and Christian Science also publish service times and adjustments for August.

Mr and Mrs Richard Wells and family traveled to Baltimore after visiting Mrs G A Smith in Thomson. Smith returns home for about three weeks and plans Columbus and Atlantic City trips. Shepherds join. Leonard Stage hosted 16 for a pot luck dinner as birthdays and a welcome for the David Pease family were celebrated.

Local girl among 1100 graduates at Latteville State University

Karen Schmidtt of Thompson registered with her agent among more than 1100 high school graduates on the Latteville State University campus for a registration and get acquainted program. Special sessions for parents were held. Classes start September 7.

Mixing Mixers win Share-the-Fun final at Carroll County Fair

The Mixing Mixers 4-H Club of Chadwick won first place in the Share-the-Fun finals with a skit The Land of the Wizard of Oz at the Carroll County Fair. The win advances them to the Illinois State Fair on August 15 and to a Stephenson County Fair showcase on August 23. Fourteen girls performed under leaders Mrs Elery Johnson and Mrs Richard Janssen.

Interstate Power Plans Rate Reductions Across Midwest Regions

Interstate Power Company announces electric rate reductions effective October 1 1967 across Illinois Iowa Minnesota and South Dakota totaling about 277000 annually. Large residential customers and those heating electrically will benefit most with rates varying by service type and usage as IPC cites ongoing efficiency and higher sales.

Dates Given For School Physicals

Thomson students entering kindergarten fifth and ninth grades and all grade school athletic boys will receive exams this year at Savanna Medical Clinic on Thursday August 31. First graders who did not have the exam last year must do so this year. The fee is $2 per child. The program is sponsored by the Thomson PTA and transportation is by school bus.

Morelli Appointed Principal at Pekin West Campus

Ray L. Morelli, former Thomson grade school superintendent, is named principal and assistant superintendent of Pekin Community High School West Campus in Pekin Illinois. He previously led Metamora grade school since 1962 and holds degrees from Canton High Illinois State University and Western Illinois University.

Plan For Beef Carcass Contest In Carroll County

Carroll County livestock extension committee led by Lewis DeGraff of Lanark will meet August 15 at 8 p.m. in Mount Carroll to finalize plans for a September beef carcass contest and a Futures Trading session. Mrs Mary Hook Argo Fa 79 died Sunday in Savanna city hospital. Services were held Wednesday at Fay Seeser funeral home Ful in with Rev Gerald Bowers officiating. She was born May 30 1888 in Camache Iowa and married John Hook in Freeport in 1914. She and her husband farmed in Argona area. survived by sister Elsie Holy Savanna and several brothers. preceded in death by daughter and a brother.

Hospital Stints Reported For Local Residents

Sick Marvin Holesinger entered Rockford Memorial Hospital Sunday and was released Monday afternoon. Joseph Ervin has been in Mercy Hospital in Clinton for the last week. Ronnie Dykstra was treated at Morrison Hospital and released. Nancy Stagman is in Mercy Hospital Clinton as an accident victim and her condition is fairly good. Michael Weis was a patient in Morrison Hospital this week and Wednesday was taken to University Hospital in Iowa City.

First Carroll County Agricultural Fair 1854 at Bailey Farm

The 1854 Carroll County Fair was held on the Monroe Bailey farm east of Argo near York. The first Thursday of October featured modest entries with horses tied to posts and cattle in pens due to lack of buildings. The Bailey farm later became the home of W J Bailey a Kansas congressman and Kansas governor, and is now occupied by the Marvin Holesinger family.
