Thomson Community Fair prep heats up across town

Final touches go on Thomson Community Fair preparations with numerous stands and activities planned. Highlights include skill booths like balloon darts duck pond and ring toss plus food stalls pony and softball leagues and a pet parade. Barbecue dinner dancing and a Bible class note a busy day on August 5 at the Old High School grounds with all groups listed in attendance.

Groharing Weds Clinton Girl In Grace Episcopal Church

Donald Groharing and Miss Nancy Lampe were married at 7 p.m. Thursday in Grace Episcopal church with Rev. Gordon Roberts officiating. A reception followed at the bride’s home. The couple will live in Moline where the groom works for Bond Walgreen. The groom graduated from York Community High School in Thomson, Illinois.

Local Boy Gary James Injured In Farm Tractor Accident

Gary James son of Mr and Mrs Harold James of Thomson was severely punctured below the ribs when a wagon tongue broke on a tractor and the wagon lifted onto the tractor. Wayne James escaped unharmed and the injured boy was rushed to the doctor and is convalescing at home.

Marshalls Return From Lake Geneva Trip

Mr and Mrs J A Marsh and Mr and Mrs Mervin Marshall recently vacationed near Lake Geneva Alexandria Minnesota. They visited local families and sights including the Kensington stone Viking statue and a Spooner Wisconsin carving museum before returning home with grandson Jon Mullen.

Thom son Community Fair invites exhibits from all residents

Everyone in the Thompson community is invited to exhibit livestock crops cooking baking sewing or other items at the Thompson Community Fair on Saturday August 5 starting at 1 00 PM. Entries will be accepted up to 1 00 PM despite the August 1 deadline with a 25 cent entry fee per exhibit and ribbons for the top four in each class.

Registration Schedule Set for Thomson Grade and High Schools

The district announces registration for all students except kindergarten on Monday and Tuesday, August 14 and 15, with time slots by alphabet. Book rental increases vary by grade, with kindergarten at 5.00 and high school at 11.00, plus instrument and lab fees.

Mrs Norman Lewis Dies Last Rites Were Held Monday

Mrs. Norman Lewis 79 of Oak Park Illinois and former Thomson resident died Friday July 28 in an Oak Park nursing home. Funeral services were held July 31 in Forest Park with graveside rites in Thomson Lower York Cemetery. She was born April 28 1888 in Thomson and taught in Savanna and Hinckley before marrying Norman B. Lewis in Thomson November 18 1912. She is survived by her husband two sons Norman B. Jr. of Oak Park and Richard C. of Batavia three grandchildren one great grandchild and one sister Mrs Dora Doty of Oak Park. She was preceded by her parents with one son six brothers and three sisters.

Thomson FFA Tells of Washington Trip and Honors

Thomson FFA shares a six day Washington tour by 41 members and sponsors after placing second in an Illinois American Heritage contest. The trip included visits to Gettysburg, the White House, Capitol Hill, Arlington, and Philadelphia sites. Dates and limits for hunting released in Illinois

Illinois conservation officials announced the 1967 68 hunting seasons with opening dates and bag limits. Upland game runs from Nov 18 to Dec 17 for pheasants and Hungarian partridge, Nov 18 to Dec 31 for quail, and Nov 18 to Jan 31 1968 for rabbits. Shooting hours run sunrise to sunset, except opening day starts at noon. Rabbit limits: five per day, ten in possession. Pheasants two cocks daily four in possession. Quail eight daily sixteen in possession. Partridge two daily four in possession. Fox hunting allowed year round in most counties. red foxes statewide except listed counties. Raccoon opossum skunk weasel mink and muskrat seasons run Nov 16 to Jan 31 northern zone. beaver trapping Nov 20 to Feb 29 1968. Green hides must be disposed ten days before fur season.
