Dunk Your Neighbor Booth Sponsored by American Legion Post

The Donald J. Ashpole Post No. 1025 will sponsor a dunk tank at the Thomson Community Fair on Aug 5. The Legion aims to raise funds for charitable purposes with profits supporting community projects.

Social notes record numerous visits and guests including Mrs Dora Wiehbenga with Mrs Grace Rentschler in Fulton, Brenda and Bruce Bielema with Sally Ottens in Lyndon, and weekend hosts the Bristol and Toepfer families. Other eye line visits include Mrs Orella Schmidt in Apache Junction with the Bennetts, and Lyle Greeley returning to Castro Valley after two weeks away.

Services For Former Area Resident Held In Morrison

Two o clock services were held today for Harvey F. Seim who died Monday in Morrison Community hospital. The Reverend Charles Klosterman officiated at Reynolds funeral home with burial in Grove Hill cemetery. He was born May 9 1900 on a Thomson area farm, married Grace Saffer in 1920, and later moved to Morrison in 1956. He is survived by his wife, a daughter Blanche Ludwig of Rochester Minnesota, two grandchildren, and a sister. One sister and his parents preceded him in death.

Argo Fa Methodist Cook Dinner for Community Fair

The Argo Fa Methodist Church will serve a barbequed chicken dinner at the Community Fair on Saturday August 5. Tickets cost 125 for pre high school and 150 for adults with a group of good cooks and promised tasty food.

Local Boy News from Fort Benning Visit

Mr and Mrs Irvin Senneff received a phone call from their son Oc Gerald Senneff at Fort Benning Georgia. Jerry said he had a pleasant surprise visit with Dale Eslinger at the PX last week. He also said he will fly by helicopter to Florida for ranger bivouac lasting two weeks.

Grace Isenhart was released Saturday from Mercy Hospital after several days as a medical patient. She is now at home recovering and in good spirits.

Thomson Junior Leaguers Nab First Place With Jim Falls

The Thomson junior team rose to first place behind Jim Falls' shut out pitching. In a separate game the Small Fry defeated Milledgeville with a come from behind rally, scoring in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings to win 10 runs after conceding 9 in the first two frames.

Thomson FFA Competes At Lee County Fair

Nine Thomson FFA members competed at the Lee County Fairgrounds in the Section II FFA Vocational Agriculture Fair on July 24 and 25. Lawrence Bruckner won Grand Champion Legume Hay and Reserve Champion Mixed Hay, with peers showing multiple classes and ratings.

Athenons Celebrate 14th Birthday at Summer Cottage

Miss Tonda Mattie marked her fourteenth birthday at the Atherton cottage where the family is staying for the summer. Attending were the Delbert Curleys of Fulton the John Athertons Mr and Mrs Mooney of Cordova and the Lloyd Smiths.

Community Fair to Feature 18 Civic Groups and Pet Parade

Thomson hosts a community fair with 18 civic organizations involved. Attractions include dunking machines and baked goods stalls open from 1 pm to dusk. A pet parade on the old school grounds is a major draw, with pets groomed for the event. The Methodist ladies will serve chicken baroque from 5 to 7 pm, with baked potatoes and salad on the menu.

Word reached here of the death of Mrs. Besse Hansen formerly Besse Alleman daughter of Mr and Mrs Victor Alleman of Argona. She died July 19 in Ripon California. A family dinner Sunday honored houseguests Mr and Mrs Donald Schroth Sr and family Fort Wayne Indiana with other guests Mr and Mrs James W Kraber Jr and family Dixon and Mrs James P Conley and Tim Clinton.

Thunder Showers Strike Thomson Area with Heavy Rain

Thundershowers hit Thomson and much of Carroll County Wednesday evening, delivering 2 to 3 inches of rain and gusty wind. Some hail reports emerged, but damage was limited. branches fell, roofs may have minor wind damage, and Main Street floodwaters forced residents to shelter in cars or stay indoors.
