Carroll county buyers McCullough and Hook led a week of high prices at the Chicago Stock Yards. They sold yearling steers at 15.00 per cwt, averaging 1074 pounds, while Frank and Dwight Turner shipped 26 hundredweight of seven month Poland China hogs at 14.25 per cwt. Cattle hit a new yearly high at 17.25 per cwt on Wednesday, the top since 1937 and the highest for April in 23 years. hogs rose to 14.50 per cwt with an average of 14.35.

Milton Weigle a retired Shannon farmer died late Monday night in a Freeport hospital. Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon at Sharman funeral home with Rev. I. D. Leatherman of Lanark officiating. Burial will be in Brethren cemetery. Born November 16 1868 near Shannon he was the son of Jacob and Mary Weigle and lived in Shannon all his life. Survived by his wife Lulu Knorr of Lanark four children Floyd and Leo of Shannon and Mrs Evan Lewis and Mrs Clifford Meyera of Adeline one brother Harve of Polo and two sisters Mrs Edora Knorr and Mrs Andora Knorr of Lanark.

Savanna Man Charged With Manslaughter
William Werthwein of Savanna is charged with manslaughter after a car strike killed Donald Van Netta, 8, of Platteville. He waived preliminary hearing, posted no bond, and was held in Grant county jail. Garrett Fredericks 41 of Milledgeville is indicted for assault with intent to commit murder by an Ogle County grand jury. He has been jailed since Apr 1 after his wife was shot twice at the Polo home of her sister Mrs Lloyd Bellows. Fredericks allegedly admitted firing two revolver shots. The shooting stemmed from domestic difficulties. Mrs Fredericks recovered enough to leave Dixon hospital after weeks of treatment.
