The Agriculture Extension Council will meet on Thursday evening May 3 to plan the extension budget for the coming year and select council members for those retiring on July 1. Savanna residents heard that eliminating crew change requirements and removing firemen from yard locomotives could cost the community $600 per year for each 100 workers displaced. T. W. Wade of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen warned of reduced local spending and transportation costs, noting substantial statewide impacts.
The annual spring county Home Economics Extension meeting gathers at Farm Bureau Hall in Mount Carroll. It opens at 10:00 a.m. with registration and displays from craft and weight control classes. A flower arranging demonstration by Mrs. S. S. Hodes follows at 10:30 a.m. A special business session at 11:00 a.m. votes on renaming the county group and on proposed constitution and bylaws.

At the April 18 meeting Carroll County Young Democrats endorsed the Medical Aid to the Aged bill backed by the Kennedy Administration. They planned to mail letters to two state Senators and the 16th district Representative, and elected Allan Brandt as Chairman, June Costello as Vice-chairman, Nancy Seelye as Secretary, and Betsy Daniels as Treasurer. They also outlined plans for the November 6 general election and the June 22 24 state convention, with a mid May meeting to finalize budgets and committees.
The Extenson Soils and Crops Committee will meet Tuesday evening May 1 with the Soil Conservation District Board to plan joint program activities for the coming year.
