A clothes dryer at the Charles McGinty residence caught fire on Wednesday afternoon, destroying the appliance and singeing a curtain. Mrs. McGinty, after finishing laundry, used the washer hose to extinguish the blaze before calling her husband at the store. No fire department response was reported.

Large Turnout Of Voters In School Election
A large turnout last Saturday elected school board members. In the grade school board David Young led with 294 votes and Paul Daniels 281, Gilbert Holland 244, with Myrna Sippel and Joyce Cate also listed. In the high school board two incumbents were re-elected, Fedderson with 299 and Ned Spencer 293. Albert Prins won 283 to Charles Huizenga 266. Illinois Bell proposes reduced long distance night rates
Illinois Bell Telephone Company, with approval from the Illinois Commerce Commission, will cut tolls for certain long distance calls within Illinois. From May 20 the new night plan sets a 50 cent top rate for the first three minutes for station to station calls, excluding person to person collect and other specialized tolls, with daytime cuts of 5 cents for 36 to 98 miles and 10 to 20 cents for over 98 miles. The changes apply in the Middle States region and are confirmed by Savanna district manager Lloyd Godfriaux.

The Sick Mrs Dolly Atherton was admitted last Wednesday to Jane Lamb hospital where she remains a medical patient. Junior McGinnis was dismissed Sunday from Mercy hospital Clinton where he had knee surgery a week ago. Allen Temple of Cordova a brother of Alfred and Isaac Temple is a patient at Jane Lamb hospital suffering burns to 65 percent of his body from a fire at home last week. Mrs Albert Perry remains a medical patient at Jane Lamb hospital Clinton. Mrs Fred Hook fell Tuesday and tore a ligament in her leg under physician care. Jimmy and Barbara children of Mr and Mrs Tom McKee underwent tonsillectomies Saturday morning at Mercy hospital. They were dismissed on Sunday and are getting along nicely.
