Grade and High School Board Meet Saturday on Unit District

The grade and high school boards will meet Saturday April 28 at 7 p m to discuss a unit district for the two schools and possible teacher exchanges. The meeting is open to the public. Principal Harold Elliott released York Community at school honor rolls for the seventh six week period with first honorists and many students on second honor and perfect attendance lists.

Thompson Prins family dinners and air force leave noted

Sunday and Saturday dinners centered on the Prins families with guests from Cicero Clinton Savanna and Fulton. Howard Prins ended two week leave to report to McClellan Air Force Base California for further Air Force training. Mrs Albert Lynch and David visited with Marvin Laird and family at Carbon.

Thomson Band To March In Savanna Parade

The Thomson school band practices this week for Memorial Day and a June 3 parade in Savanna. Twelve bands from Savanna and nearby communities will join marching units from area posts plus auxiliaries and local groups. The route runs downtown from National Tea lot north on Third Street then Division, south on Main, to Chicago, ending at the supermarket lot. Prizes honor best float, unit, and band.

Fire destroys 60,000 evergreen trees near Thomson

The Thomson fire department responded Saturday afternoon to a fire on land owned by P. K. McGinnis, one mile south of Thomson. About 60,000 four year old evergreens were destroyed, believed caused by a bonfire whose sparks blew onto the trees from a neighboring site.

Local Hospital Notices Update on Patients

Mrs Dolly Atherton has been discharged from Jane Lamb hospital to her son and daughter in law’s home. Mrs Vaughn McGinnis is homebound with a back injury after a three month old ice accident and will need six to eight weeks of recovery. Mrs Alfred Perry left Jane Lamb hospital for Mrs Gertrude Bos in Fulton. Mrs Leo Hengtgen, now Elgin, underwent major surgery last week and is recovering. Ms Albert Hathway remains a medical patient in Savanna hospital.

Arthur Perry of Selfridge AFB Michigan spent the weekend in Fulton at the home of his mother in law Mrs Gertrude Bos. His grandmother Mrs Albert Perry, a patient in Jane Lamb hospital Clinton, is convalescing in the Bos home. His wife and daughter, who had spent the week with her mother in Fulton, returned home with him. Mr and Mrs P K McGinnis and family, and Mr and Mrs Clem Hoy were Sunday dinner and supper guests of Mr and Mrs Marvin Stiles and sons.
