The program, run by Ralston Purina specialists at Gray Summit, covered DT sprays for parasites and weed controls, highlighting government loss estimates of poultry and livestock mortality at about half a billion dollars annually.

Christmas Seal Sale Nets $1623 for Carroll County
Miss Mabel C. Greve of Savanna reports that Carroll county raised more than 1600 from the 1946 Christmas Seal sale. Of the total 405.83 went to the state tuberculosis association. The tuberculosis testing program in the county conducted 570 tests and 116 X rays costing 918.00. X ray results show six Thomson high school pupils reacted but none are actively afflicted with tuberculosis.

Report 300 County Farmers To Plant Corn On Contour
Over 300 Carroll county farmers plan to plant corn on contour this spring. Marion Stalty, Conservationist for the local district, reported from AAA sign up figures. Contouring will cover about 1,700 acres, with 1,600 acres strip cropped and 504 acres for pasture improvement. District office invites help to lay contour lines using hand levels. Staley explains two workers can survey a contour line with stakes placed every 100 feet, adjusting lines to avoid sharp curves while balancing level contours and uneven terrain.

Fulton Defeats Savanna Track Squad in Dual Meet
Fulton high defeated Savanna 71.12 to 62.12 in a Friday dual track meet at Savanna. Rogers of Savanna led with three firsts and a third, while Sikkema of Fulton took two firsts and a third. Fulton won eight of 14 events.

Heavy loss in farm fire near Carroll
Fire destroyed a large barn cattle shed and corn crib on the Wallace Williams farm in Preston Prairie west of Mt Carroll. Loss estimated 20 000 to 380 000 with little insurance. Mrs Williams and a son witnessed the blaze after hay was hauled in. Fire department arrived too late as the barn burned in about 30 minutes. Cattle feed and other farm assets, including a silo milking machine and a new wagon, were consumed. Strong east wind fanned the fire but kept it from the house. Family of Rockford visited relatives during the event.
