Surprise Party Monday Evening For Heffelfingers

Neighbors held a farewell surprise for Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Heffelfinger and family at their home Monday evening. Attendees included Herbert Kowitz Provant Lang Hartman Doden Rogers Hinricks and Sadie North of Lanark. The gathering featured card games and refreshments, and the couple received a purse of money before moving soon to Boise Idaho.

Surprise 72nd Birthday Party for Andrew Miller

Andrew Miller enjoyed a surprise celebration Monday evening at the Chester Alexander home for his 72nd birthday. Phone strike has little effect in Carroll area

Bell system operators nationwide walked out at 6 a.m. Monday but Carroll county saw minimal disruption as local lines and nonunion providers kept service. Some long distance calls to Clinton Indiana faced limits and a storm outage forced rerouting via Sterling until the strike ended. Public cooperation remained high with most essential long distance calls completed.

Legion Meet Sunday at Rock Falls

Rock Falls Post No. 902 invites the 13th district American Legion to a spring meeting at Rock Falls on Sunday April 15 starting at 8 p m. District commander H F Walder of Dix on says the event will host posts and auxiliary members with reports and discussion on the June 1 district convention and membership drive. Final Rites for Mrs. E. Yeager Held

Funeral services for Elizabeth Yeager pioneer of Chadwick were conducted in the Frank chapel with Rev. Earl Cobl officiating. Burial followed in Chadwick cemetery. She was born June 24 1863 in Fair Haven township and died April 1 1947 at her Chadwick home. Her survivors include daughter Emma Maher and son John, both in Chadwick, and son George Frank deceased in infancy.

Handel Bros sale barn and residence net $8100

The Handel Bros sale barn and the residence in Chadwick occupied by the Harlen Handel family sold at auction Saturday afternoon for 8100 dollars. The house went to Geo. Miller for 5250 dollars and the barn to John Bierman of Bierman and Larson Motor Sales for 2850 dollars. The sale was advertised in the Review.

Marriage licenses issued in April include several couples

April marriage licenses list Earl Page of Dixon and Phyllis Peat of Lanark, Fred Edwin Ulrich and Margaret Alice Ulrich of Rockford, with other local names. A Lanark church Disciples of Christ in Lanark will receive about $8,000 from the Thomas M. Hawk estate, due after trust provisions and church operations.

Dixon native named assistant to Carroll County Highway Chief

William Geisz of Dixon has been named assistant to Carroll County superintendent of highways 8 C Campbell. Geisz started his new duties last week and has worked in civil engineering in Dixon. He recently bought a Mount Carroll home and will move his wife and two daughters here.

13th District Woman's Club Meets in Polo

Chadwick area residents exceeded the $250 March drive quota with final receipts totaling 3654.5. Local chairman Mrs. W. H. Tavier announced after solicitors submitted reports, listing contributions ranging from five dollars to amounts near five dollars and several smaller gifts.

Right of Way Secured for Chadwick Route Improvement

Elmer Zugsenwerant township supervisor and C. Campbell county highway superintendent have worked this week to secure landowner consent for additional right of way along the buildup road between Chadwick and Route 7s. Winter surveys completed, construction contract expected to be let around June 1 if all rights are obtained.

The Chas Lamb farm near Argo Fa comprising 162 acres was sold at a courthouse auction in Mt Carroll on Saturday April 5 by Master in Chancery Ralph Eaton. James Green bought 15 acres of timberland at 20 per acre and Wm Hussong purchased a lot in Argo Fa at 68. Wh Green of Fulton purchased the 162 acre farmland at 106 per acre.

Nicholas Krier succumbs Saturday in Clinton

Nicholas Krier, 7H, died Saturday at 2 p.m. in Lau hospital Clinton where he had been a patient days. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 o'clock at Carroll funeral home with burial in VW cemetery. The Rev James Gailetor of York Baptist church officiated. Survived by his wife Ruth Colabour and several relatives. He was a blacksmith by trade and moved to Thomson in 1917. He had been a member of the Baptist church.
