Washington March 28 Babson argues that a sweeping move to mechanization is reshaping farms, trucking, services, and factory work. He warns it will touch every home and demand new attitudes from workers and management to avoid social stagnation while increasing living standards.
The Argo-Fa pupils will present a musical program on Thursday evening April 10 at 8 o clock. County Superintendent Lawrence Bruci will show a movie. Parents friends and neighbors are invited and asked to bring a sack lunch for each family member. Coffee will be provided.
Thomson and Shirley Stage of Fulton were dinner guests of their son Eugene Stage in Clinton Iowa and later had supper with their granddaughter and husband William Comstock. Bert Stainbrook of Clinton was a business caller on Wednesday.
Township tax assessors met with Mrs. Lula M. Ross to finalize plans for the year. Assessments cover livestock fed on hand, leased improvements, tenant paid building work, rural electrification property, and detailed per item valuations for cattle, horses, goats, sheep, swine, poultry, grains, hay, and autos with a June 1 deadline.
Andrew Jackson Ritenour 80 died March 28 at his Savanna home after a paralytic stroke. Born March 9 1867 in Warren County Pa he married Minnie Oberheim who died years ago. Surviving include two sons Earl and Kenneth two daughters and many relatives. Carrie Gillespie 82 died March 26 at a son’s home west of Mt Carroll. Born December 3 1864 in Wisconsin she married Charles Gillespie in 1892. Surviving are a son two brothers and a sister with three grandchildren. Burial followed in Zon Cemetery Mt Carroll.
Clyde C. Lindeman 55 of Savanna died Friday in Goudette Minnesota from a heart attack. He had lived in Savanna 40 years and worked for the Milwaukee railroad 30 years. WWI veteran. Survived by son Francia, two brothers Harold and Elmer, three sisters, and other relatives. Charles Yeager 65 of Shannon died Tuesday at St Francis Hospital Freeport after being taken there. He farmed near Shannon before moving to the village and is survived by his widow, sister Esther McFadden, and a daughter. Funeral arrangements were made in Shannon.
Russ Carlyle and his orchestra, billed as Amelia's New Singing Star, will headline the Easter dance at the Modernistic Ballroom in Clinton Iowa. It is their first appearance in the area and touted as rivaling Bing Crosby in style and appeal.

Thomson new Mrs Donald Welch and baby stay with her in laws in Morrison while Mr and Mrs Clarence Van Buskirk and Emma Van Buskirk visit Argona. Mrs Joseph Melendy spends a week in Sheboygan visiting daughter Mrs Bernard Conrad.394
Elective and appointive officers of the Carroll county council of the American Legion were published. Commander Oliver H. Emnyre leads elected posts with Kenneth Buck, Charles Reese, R H Hartman, Earl C Coble, and Ward Frederick holding key roles. Appointive slots include Adjutant Louis Frank and others handling service, welfare, and youth programs.
Thomson Briers and Mrs. John Simpson cared for Mr. Krier at the Krier home while Mrs. Simpson’s daughter Mrs. Gale Turney assisted on the farm. Des Moines visitors include Mr. and Mrs. Walter White and relatives who will join Oscar Kraft’s family for Easter. Legion dance tickets are available from local members. Savanna visits and family dinners thread through weekend plans with the Zirkelbachs, Smiths, Airharts, and others. Ben Wagner and Mrs. Myron Gibbs attended William O’Dell funeral rites in Fulton.
The MYF will meet at the parsonage Easter morning for a sunrise service. The Easter story in Kodachrome slides will be shown. Thomson church and Argo group join for a Good Friday service at 7 30. Easter Sunday includes reception of members and possible baptism, with a fourth quarterly conference naming next year’s officials to take office after the June Annual Conference.
J. E. Griswold of Freeport addressed about the American Legion founding aims and future duties at Carroll county council’s March meeting in Shannon Legion hall. He urged large post delegations to Rock Falls for the April 13 Spring district meeting.
Kenneth Tibbits of Keithsburg and Bob Stewart of Chadwick visited Thomson parents over the weekend. Mr and Mrs Joe Shutters were dinner guests of Thomson families. Ice Capades attendance in Chicago included Bob Smith Earl Kaufman and Leland Schmaling, returning home Tuesday. Doc Kness opens a washing machine shop April 7 near Volk cafe. Raph Stearns replaces roofing after a recent fire. Chicago visitors Mrs Bertha Hawkins and Mrs Clif Bennett called on Thomson residents. Easter visits planned with Miss Blanche Seim in Thomson.
Light showers on Monday gave way to clear Tuesday as township elections proceeded though many roads remained muddy. Wednesday brought continued clouds and mist, potentially affecting turnout and travel conditions.

Several relatives including Mrs M J Strukhoff and her parents Jr and Mrs Chas Rogers stayed in Maquoketa and Thomson for several days.
