First graders enjoyed a playful April 1 at school with Mrs Bolhous noting the pupils read beautifully. Several students subscribed to summer Weekly Readers while Mrs Troxell’s class posted 100 percent attendance for the week ending April 1. Gena Bull treated the children to candy.
Thomson news notes weekend visits as William Halfman family and Lowell Hall's party in Mt Carroll share time with Haas family. John Byers Diephuis and Mark of Fulton visit Myles Haas family. Albert Ihne of Hampshire visits Merle Prins family as Patricia Lynn arrives home from hospital. Additional gatherings include Wiersema Dykstra Morrison Mertz families and Savanna Clarence Doty hosts.
Second graders read The New Teacher and colored pictures for the bulletin board. Cheryl Hook shared birthday ice cream bars and cookies. Fourth graders earned perfects in arithmetic and watched a cotton movie. They collect cotton images. Fifth graders study Civil War and paint stained glass windows for Easter. Sixth graders take achievement tests and craft Easter hats. Seventh graders study The World of Nature and township government and draw Easter bunnies. Mrs Sippel visited Mrs Kuetes' sixth grade class.
The Savanna Ordinance Depot official spoke to the senior class about government employment and required education. The Thomson Band earned Excellent at a Rockford district contest and prepared for a state contest in Kankakee with solos earning superior honors.
Mrs. Sippel gave a talk on Thursday about her work as a census taker. Students praised her time and explained the records they will fill out. Eighth graders prepared for a civics test while decorating Easter themed bulletin boards. Sixth and eighth graders spent ten days on achievement tests to be machine scored, with Mr. Morelli planning an article about the results. Connie Dannatt and Donna Sippel are reporters.
