Windbreak Planting Demo Planned Near Shannon
A windbreak planting demonstration on the Kenneth Woessner farm southeast of Shannon is set for next Wednesday morning April 13, directed by L. B. Culver Extension Forester under Farm Adviser Byron Hutchins. The event runs 10 a.m. to noon and will show how windbreaks reduce drifting snow and fuel costs, with benefits appearing after 6 to 10 years. The Woessner farm lies one mile south and one mile west of Shannon's east edge.

Dairy herd of Charles Kessler and Sons led Unit 1 of Carroll county DHIA in March with 1454 pounds of milk and 51.8 pounds fat per cow. Across 24 herds on test the average was 853 pounds milk and 31.9 fat. 146 cows were dry. Five highest herds and five highest cows list Kessler and others with exact outputs.

Lottie Bousman Is Sentenced for Aggravated Assault
Lottie Bousman of Clinton Iowa was sentenced by Judge L Melvin Gundry to 90 days in jail for aggravated assault. Due to limited women prisoners facilities in Carroll County jail, she will serve time at White Side County Jail. The case began with a complaint from Jean Westaby of Savanna alleging a Saturday night assault.

On March 31, 1960, over 40 Daviess county friends gathered in Freeport Illinois to back Jim Richardson for State Senator. Farmers doctors and others distributed literature stressing his qualifications and pledge that Carroll Jo Daviess and Stephenson counties will have honest representation. Five thousand colored hand bills were dropped from the air at noon by Lt. Fred Creager and five hundred more on Lena Illinois en route. The crowd met in Lena for a coffee hour before traveling to Freeport.

Suspend License of Tavern Owner in Savanna
Mrs. Anna Williams, owner of B. and W. Tavern, had her liquor license suspended for 30 days after pleading guilty to selling liquor to a minor. The special hearing before Mayor Ambrose Daniels, the city liquor commissioner, and the city council revoked the license. The minor was her grandson Jerry Reifstock Hanover, 19, found with two six packs of beer. Suspension begins April 4, 1960.
