In Claxton Georgia on June 8 Rev A R Crumpton and his eight member family fell ill after arsenic dust used to treat vegetables blew into flour and was accidentally mixed into the meal. Prompt doctors averted serious harm.
The Rotary Club admitted Rev. J. Cook and Mr. Truman Holland with a formal charge and welcome. Frank Harris gave the address highlighting Rotary ideals while John King introduced Mrs. Joe Neel to explain the Junior Club. The group, totaling seventeen in city and two outside, funds milk gifts and the childrens lunch program.
Contenders must cast ballots by Friday six o clock to close the five week popularity contest offering a free Chicago World’s Fair trip and nineteen prize drawings. Double votes are available for payments on pre June first accounts, so deposit votes promptly with the recipient’s name clearly written.
Washington reports progress toward a compromise on how much war veterans allowances can be cut to aid budget balancing. Senator Russell of Georgia urged an amendment to the public works bill to allow the public works administrator to lend to cities without regard to state or local borrowing limits. He warned that without the change cities in his state and about nine other commonwealths could not access a $3.3 billion fund. He said other senators supported the modification and a favorable vote seemed likely.
Fifty eight men from Thomas County are placed under a four day measles quarantine at Fort Benning after a suspected case. The isolation covers the company area to prevent spread among about 9 000 troops. roster shows 30 counties represented with Thomas County contributing 58 men. four selected for Reception Company are not quarantined.
Reports list Mr R N Hicks of Atlanta and Mr M O Cobb of Albany as business visitors. Eugene Allen of Atlanta and Mrs A W Dekle with Miami family are among guests at a local hotel. Mrs J L Green and daughter from Miami visit Mrs W H Moreland. others plan trips to Cleveland Charlotte and Washington. The largest class in Thomasville school history will graduate tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. Diplomas will be presented to those who pass final exams this week. A reporter noted many foreign car tags in town reflecting diverse car origins.
Mrs Lute Bright of Walker Minnesota reports losing 20 pounds from June 28 1932 to January 10 1933 after using Kruschen Salts. She claims significant health gains and avoided gallstone surgery, praising the product and urging use with hot water every morning.
The chairman of the Thomas County Relief Association toured CCC Company 1414 Sunday, inspecting sleeping quarters mess hall and kitchen. Commissioner Pittman and his wife Frances and Thelma Mason saw most of the county quota and were impressed by the men and the committee’s treatment.

Max Baer weighed 203 pounds at New York boxing commission offices for the 15 round title bout tonight with Max Schmeling. Schmeling weighed 189 1/4 pounds, about 13 3/4 pounds more than Baer, and he arrived from New Jersey to attend the weigh in and then drive to an undisclosed destination ahead of the fight.
