South Georgia Methodists Increase Districts to Nine
The South Georgia Methodist Conference votes to raise districts from eight to nine. Bishop John Owen Smith of Atlanta says the measure passed by a two thirds majority after previously being tabled. The change cuts churches per district from 50 to about 36 and centers the new district around Statesboro. The conference also elects 10 delegates for the 1964 Pittsburgh general conference with both lay and clerical members named.
