North Georgia poultry market shows steady overall activity with supplies meeting demand. The report notes roasters and fryers varying in price within a narrow range and heavy-type hens at several bid figures, reflecting a balanced market.
Estimated receipts at major packing plants in Albany Moultrie Thomasville Tifton Dothan and Jacksonville cover cattle calves and hogs with hog prices by weight and class. Chicago receipts show modestly lower barrows and gilts with prices ranging around 10.75 to 12.00 for various weights. North Georgia cattle market notes moderate activity with steady to weak slaughter values and detailed ranges for steers heifers cows and calves.
On the Atlanta produce market trading was fair on Tuesday and light early Wednesday with receipts light to moderate. Cabbage sold 2.00 to 2.25 per sack and sweet potatoes 2.00 to 8.00. Turnips mostly fair at 1.25 to 1.50 per dozen. Mustard 1.25 to 1.50 a bushel. Turnip greens 1.00 to 1.25. Collards sold 1,261.50.
USDA meat report shows week ended December 10 with 514 million pounds produced under federal inspection, up 4 percent from the prior week and 12 percent from the previous year. Hog slaughter reaches highest since January 1944 while cattle slaughter nears a new high, marking a fourth weekly record in a row.
Pfc Morris H Miller Jr of Fort Hood Texas visits his mother Mrs Ruby Petsaropoulas and family for the holidays with guest Pfc Pedro Acevedo Matos of Tallaboa Station Puerto Rico. Miss Betty Nunnally returns home after earning a B S in education from the University of Georgia. Bainbridge couple Mr and Mrs George W Hicks announce the birth of daughter Ginger Lynn. Mrs Hicks is the former Betty Stokes of Thomasville. Archbold Memorial Hospital admits Mrs Marion McGalllard of Thomasville.
A large crowd attended the Elks meeting where Dr. Mervin Wine reviewed the Atlanta board of trustees meeting and Aldmore Hospital matters. He noted fund increases and urged budgeting for operating expenses, with plans for a Georgia Exalted Rulers Auxiliaries annual meeting on the last Sunday in April.
Mr and Mrs D B Wood of Boston travel with Mr and Mrs Frank Snyder who leave Friday for Belleville New Jersey to spend Christmas holidays and a two week vacation with relatives and friends.
The Exchange Club heard Dr H Grady Young speak on hunting dogs in a question and answer program presented by Jimmy Haddock. He cited wide chest expansion and large lung capacity as key traits and urged vaccination for rabies distemper hepatitis and leptospirosis. The talk covered pre hunt care including nail trimming ear mites tartar removal and avoiding worm treatments mid season. Dr Young demonstrated how to free a dog from a fence tie a dog to prevent bites and carry a wounded animal out of the field with a bird dog as aid. He outlined snake bite treatment and a field kit, and noted one meal daily after hunting with most birds dogs peaking around six years. President Harry Turner presided.
Renovation work in the Municipal Building under B L Brewton starts as steel arrives to support a balcony for clerks and bookkeepers. Entrances remain unchanged while more space is made for city offices and records kept outside the present vault. The vault stays intact and Pascony space will be added to accommodate visitors once completed.

Firemen extinguished a pecan grove blaze at Mr. Reynolds on Tallahassee Road at 4 30 p m Tuesday causing minor damage. A 9 am collision on Jackson Street involved a car backing from a parking space owned by H P Evans of Hartford Alabama causing slight damage to a second parked car.
