Water Cut Off Affects Winthrop Highlands and Cottage Hill

Residents faced morning showers cancellations as the water supply was halted Sunday. Officials cited installation of a new 16 inch valve replacing a 12 inch gate on the Metropolitan Water Service at Short Beach, blocking the Revere to Winthrop main, with restoration expected by mid afternoon.

Rescue Boys From Overturned Boat Near Point Shirley

Three Winthrop youths Charles Wheaton Ralph Boxford and Charles Reed clung to an overturned boat for over an hour off Point Shirley while a crowd searched in darkness for cries for help. Speed launch operator Charles O Donnell found and pulled them aboard. They were chilled and exhausted as police arrived.

Local Service Charges Clarified by Suburban Gas and Electric

A letter answering questions dated May 20 explains charges for Suburban Gas and Electric Company. A monthly service charge of 50 cents applies to all customers across Revere and Winthrop. A single $3.00 connection fee covers both connection and disconnection, with no disconnection fee. The charges apply to both new and existing residents moving locations.

Chelsea Tercentenary Banquet Attended by Local Officials

Chairman Tibbetts and Selectman Churchill attended the Chelsea Tercentenary Celebration banquet held at the Williams School Hall Chelsea Tuesday evening this week. The Chelsea Committee extended the invitation led by Hon Francis X Tyrrell, Chairman.

Town Meeting Okays Zoning Shift While Other Items Postponed

At Point Shirley a zoning change was delayed along with three other items. Four matters were postponed including sewer work on Tileston road and purchases for the Police Department such as a new auto for $709 and a wire fence on Hermon street costing $185.

Expect Action Soon on Revere Street Bill

Senator Patterson chairman of the street widening sub committee says the panel reported favorably on Revere Street widening. A full committee meeting will be held later this week to submit the report. The bill is expected to reach the calendar soon with no opposition from the committee. Confidential word hints at a new Post Office decision soon.

Veteran Deserion Charge Dismissed For Putnam Soldier

Fran cis M Masterson a disabled veteran of the 101st infantry from Putnam street had desertion and O L L charges dismissed by an army court martial at the 1st Corps Area due to the statute of limitations. He received an honorable discharge on Tuesday at Fort Banks after the acquittal. Commander Frederick H Clark of Winthrop Post 146 and Lt Harold Smith led the effort for Masterson with strong Legion backing. The case drew wide veteran interest across New England and the nation.
