A new Methodist church will be dedicated Sunday June 1 with additional ceremonies the week of June 1. Mr Harry A Camp is noted in the Hour as a sponsor. An organ memorial gift from Mrs Charles L Barlow will be unveiled at 7 30 p m in the evening service.
The meeting notes July 4th events and related Legion Carnival plans with dates placing the Friday holiday about six weeks away. Officials discussed scheduling and logistics for the observance and associated activities.
Town meeting on Monday discusses playground at Point Shirley and land purchase plus filling of flats. Selectmen seek authority to sell old Town Hall site and rename streets Court road to Johnson avenue. Lobster Co seeks zoning change Otis Taft corner and wharf at Grand View into business zone. Spanish War Veterans seek lease of Hermon Main Town property pending Post Office move. Other articles cover department expenses.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 200 o clock for Louis M MacCartney a World War veteran who died Monday. He had worked in the engraving department of the Boston Post for a year or more. He leaves a wife two children in Winthrop a father sister and brother in England. Interment was in Winthrop Cemetery. Rev Ralph M Harper officiated.
The town flag pole for the town hall grounds has been postponed and will be erected next week to secure the pole in place.
Officials discuss widening a trestle bridge near Pleasant Street station in Winthrop Massachusetts to allow larger boat passage. The May 15 1930 mayoral approval notes a move toward broader openings, with the Revere City Council seeking more information and possible future steps.
Chairman Tibbetts outlines four concrete ideas for Winthrop 1931. A Edward B Newton School site for residential or business use and a Main Street to Winthrop Centre route. Sunnyside flats Fishermen's Bend become playground and bathing beach after dredging. Oak land Street tennis courts opposite the cemetery and Hermon Main Streets town lot tennis courts if not leased to Spanish War Veterans.
A Winthrop delegation will assemble at St John’s Hall Lincoln Street at 7 45 pm sharp. Autos will be on hand to transport members in large numbers to Everett for the visit.
