Town Board Names Appointed Town Officers
At Monday night’s meeting the Board of Selectmen approved the annual list of town appointees with the exception of the Town Physician post. Dr Daniel J O’Brien of 78 Washington Avenue was appointed to that office and the rest of the appointments included Leon C Guptil as Town Solicitor T J Mahaney as Building Inspector and Superintendent of Streets E Burrill as Superintendent of Sewers H A Edwards as Constable to serve writs and Jos H Poor as Superintendent of Police Signal System Marion M Johnson as Investigator for Overseers of Public Welfare J J Kennedy as Board of Registrars of Voters. Winthrop automobile owners and others across the state will receive motor excise tax bills on April 1 as set by the Massachusetts Commissioner of Corporations and Taxation. The annual rate is 29.65 per thousand, with values based on vehicle age from 90 percent of new price down to 10 percent after five years. Payments will be issued in installments through the year, with full, half and quarter year taxes depending on registration dates, replacing personal property tax and eliminating sworn statements.
