Winthrop High School Graduation Honors 230 Seniors

Two hundred thirty members of the Senior Class of Winthrop High School received diplomas Friday morning June 16 at 10 o clock in the Winthrop Theatre. The High School Orchestra conducted by N Elliot Willis played the march as girls wore white dresses and boys navy suits with blue ties. Each graduate wore a red rose.

Ralph M. Harper Jr Wins Four School Prizes

Ralph M. Harper Jr., son of Rev. Ralph M. Harper and Mrs. Harper, swept four of 14 scholastic prizes at Winthrop Senior High School. He earned the Winthrop Woman's Club scholarship of 250 dollars for the highest four year scholastic average, plus the S. A. R. Washington and Franklin medals, Enterprise Debating Club prize, and another Woman's Club award.

Winthrop Street Lists Now Available to Public

The Winthrop Street Lists are available at the Assessors' office in Town Hall. A limited number were printed this year and each town official has a copy. A few public copies remain for fifty cents each.

Local Garden Club In First Birthday Celebration

The Winthrop Garden Club marked its first birthday with a June twenty gathering at the Cliff House. Pink roses adorned each plate and a central bowl of pink roses with a lit birthday candle highlighted the festive dining room. President Mrs. Robert E. Gove welcomed attendees with brief remarks.

Knights Host Ladies Night at St John’s Hall

Winthrop Council Knights of Columbus under Grand Knight John J. McCarthy held Ladies Night in St John’s Hall on Wednesday. Over 300 members and wives enjoyed a play Four Aces and a Queen followed by dancing to Bruno’s Orchestra until midnight. Refreshments were served. committee included Grand Knight James Downes and Dr Arthur Cassidy.

George F Paine former superintendent of streets of this town and a member of one of Winthrop's oldest families died Monday at his son's home. Funeral arrangements were not listed.
