Outing for 700 Wenham youngsters by Non-Partisan League

Seven hundred children from Winthrop join a large Non-Partisan League parade and picnic day in Wenham. State and local motorcycle police led a motorcade through East Boston and surrounding towns to Pleasant Pond, where kids enjoyed ice cream, rides, balloons, swims, and boat trips with no serious mishaps.

Dinner Plan for Jim Crowley Jr. Tribute at Cliff House

A testimonial dinner is planned for Jim Crowley Jr. described as a favorite son who has made his mark in business social or athletic life. The event will be a supper at the Cliff House Monday evening July 10 with sporting celebrities from all walks of life expected to attend and participate in the tribute.

Laurence B. Loring Dies at Highlands

Laurence Bertram Loring, longtime Highlands resident, died June 24 after an illness sped by a November accident at his Boston place of business. Born in Reading, Mass., he was the twelfth generation in the Mayflower Alden line and once traveled for the New England Newspaper Union. His brother Charles A. later led a Machine Composition Company.

Playground Opens Next Monday In Ingleside Park 1933 Season

The Winthrop Playgrounds season begins next Monday July 3 at Ingleside Park. Henry R. Rock organizes a town baseball league with teams from all sections. Frances Lill and Eileen Hayes lead the girls program with tap dancing paddles and balls tents swings sand boxes circus jackstones tours plays swimming and more daily from 9 am to 4 pm.

Promise Plenty of Action and Glamour At Legion Carnival

The Legion Carnival at Ingleside Park on July 3 and 4 promises a glamorous midway and new features. Hans Kleeman performs for kids, a Gold Hunt all day, Archery under Girl Scouts, a Harmonica Blow-off, Watermelon eating contest and an open air Jig Saw contest. Prizes will be awarded and events aim to attract all ages.

The assessors report completed first quarter work from April 1 and visited every inhabited dwelling, numbering 3450, gathering names of every adult twenty years or older and the number of minors. Continued on page 6.

Boy Scout Fund Campaign Totals Announced

Final bulletin shows the Boy Scout Fund Campaign raised 2164.75 dollars, 87 percent of the 2500 dollar goal. The council executive board thanks all helpers, led by Edward R. Clarke, for the Winthrop District’s 19 teams and broad cooperation.

Injured in Fall While Visiting Mrs McNeil

Mrs William A McNeil wife of the police chief fractured her hip in a fall while visiting her sister in Quincy last Friday. She was taken to Community Hospital where x rays were taken to assess the injury and she will remain hospitalized for several weeks.
