On Sunday afternoon June 9 a memorial service was held at Odd Fellows Hall at 2 30 pm in honor of Air and Sea heroes. Representatives from patriotic bodies attended.
In the contest results Troop 2 took first place, Troop 3 finished second, and Troop 7 was listed third but judges reallocated third to Troop 6. The article notes a continuation on page 5.
Town negotiates savings of sixty thousand dollars on tuberculosis hospital services with Haven Sea 008 as the primary contractor. Officials cite reduced operating costs and improved patient care through new procurement terms.
At a Winthrop Post No 146 American Legion meeting at Hermon street headquarters a proposal was passed to offer the Legion building of their new church to the Methodist church. The offer time is from 9 00 A M to 1 00 P M on Sundays for the Sunday School or other purposes.
A letter from Mr. McCarthy discusses an elevated bus line from Orient Heights to the Winthrop Bridge. The proposal would provide a straight ten cent fare from the Winthrop Bridge to any part of Boston, with the line described as a bus route in street terms.
One hundred and fifty nine students will bid farewell to the local high school next Wednesday evening when the graduating exercises of the Class of 1929 will take place. The class is large but not the largest ever to graduate from the local high school. Rev. Henry J. Wharton will lead the graduates.
The Class Day program featured an Address of Welcome and remarks by Class President Robert Haley as part of the 1929 ceremonies.
