Class Day and Graduation Features At Winthrop Senior High

Winthrop High School holds class day exercises in the Winthrop Theatre Tuesday at 10 30 and will stage graduation there June 11 at 10. Ralph Hubert Baker Jr leads the class as president with James Kennedy and others. A series of addresses, a minstrel show, and the presentation of the class gift are planned alongside numerous prize awards and diplomas by Everett Lane.

Church School Graduation Marks Fifty Years of Service

Officers from a Winthrop church and East Boston Savings Bank celebrate a church school class with diplomas. Walter P. Simonds and Benjamin A. Delano, longtime church and bank leaders, presided as graduates and awards were announced for each grade. A subsequent parish house ceremony honored Mrs. Mary M. Hodgkins with a signed book from rector Rev. Ralph M. Harper and five grandchildren.

Stamp and Hobby Exhibit Opens Saturday in Winthrop

The Winthrop Stamp Club Mounts a noncommercial exhibit June 12 through June 16 in the Public Library Museum Rooms. Hours are 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p m daily with items from stamps to hooked rugs wood carving ship models and a unique scare head edition of newspapers from the 1880s. Eugene P Whittier chairs the exhibit aimed at encouraging amateur interest across ages.

Commodore's Ball Planned for June 18 at Cottage Park Yacht Club

Plans are under way for the annual Commodore's Ball at the Cottage Park Yacht Club on Friday evening June 18. Art Rubin will lead his orchestra providing music for the gala affair with entertainment and dancing featured.

Winthrop Elks Plan Flag Day Parade and Anniversary

The Winthrop Elks mark Flag Day and the lodge’s thirtieth anniversary with a 6:30 p.m. parade from the Elks clubhouse to Metcalf Square. Attorney General Paul A. Dever will speak, Brig. Gen. Charles H. Cole is honorary parade marshal, and Fort Banks officers join local veterans and civic groups in the event. A silver cup will honor the best essay on "The Flag."

Transportation Committee Plans for Winthrop

At a Town Hall meeting the local Transportation Committee elected officers led by Chairman Sidney H. Blandford and Vice Chairman Roy Pigeon. An executive committee was formed to outline procedure as they prepare for a potential statewide bill on consolidating the Boston Elevated and Boston Revere Beach and Lynn Railroad. The Beach branch public library opening is scheduled for Tuesday June 15 with public inspection and daily hours beginning June 16.

Cemetery Vault Waterproofing Underway at Winthrop Cemetery

Waterproofing work on the cement vault in Winthrop Cemetery is progressing with a large trench dug behind the vault. The entire side will be sealed with finest material and the top waterproofed, featuring a waterproof tile floor. Completion is expected in a few weeks.

Annual Zam-Bola Plans Completed

The eighth annual Zam-Bola of the Pleasant Park Yacht Club is set for Friday and Saturday, June 11 and 12, at the clubgrounds on Pleasant Street. Commodore George J. Hamilton and crew have arranged family amenity and action filled sailing events with free admission for all residents to enjoy.
