A Saturday veranda event at the Winthrop Golf Club hosted ladies not playing golf until after four. The first of a series of eight-table bridge parties drew guests with Mrs. George McEwan as chairman. Attendees enjoyed the program and encores, followed by a Symphony concert.
Memorial Day marks the start of an eight match per flight elimination for the 16 top players in three flights contesting the President's Cup the Vice-President's Cup and the House Committee Trophy at Winthrop Golf Club. Matches will use 18 holes with three quarters handicap difference.
Winthrop Junior High defeats Somerville Southern 7 to 6 in ten innings at Ingleside Park. Giarla shines with bat and pitching, delivering a three base hit and late RBI to seal the win as Somerville fights back from a 3 to 1 deficit. Batteries were Forristall and Giara for Winthrop, Manning and Lynch for Somerville.
Winthrop Catholic Club will meet the strong Malden C C at Ingleside Park Saturday afternoon. Malden C C leads the Malden City League and is among the fastest teams around Boston. Keeley pitched well in a 10 6 win over St Mark s. Delorey or Hendricks to catch for Winthrop.

The Spanish War Veterans Association held its annual outing on Sunday June 3 at Fort Standish. Commander Russell Younger led a group from Pleasant Park Yacht Club with Abies Irish Rose making two trips to the island. After a noon luncheon the party toured the island then sailed home with the Wanderer VII winning the nine mile race along the Waterway.
The Wanderer topped the field in the Memorial Day races at the South Boston Yacht Club though wind scattered the fleet and kept speeds variable around City Point. Review Boston Telephone Hancock 8387.
A strong southwest breeze produced ideal racing weather for the South Boston Yacht Club home series opening. Wanderer VII, skippered by A. E. Whittemore, led in the 18-foot water line keel Class I Marconi sloops across the line.
