Pageant cast rehearsals boost Winthrop spectacle appeal

First rehearsal of the 1920 Victory Pageant drew crowds at the Old High School Hall. The outdoor historical drama needs 600 plus cast members with many parts open, inviting volunteers to join committees and read episodes.

Memorial Services for Naval Dead Set on Shore Drive

The Women’s Reserve Corps will hold a memorial service Sunday at 2 PM on Shore Drive at the head of the stairs to honor sailors who died in service. Winthrop veteran groups are invited, with naval service members urged to attend. The public may join as wreaths are cast on the water, and the Union Congregational Church choir will perform.

Advisory Committee Re-elects Chairman at Point Shirley Club

The Advisory Committee met at the Point Shirley Club Tuesday evening and unanimously re elected Chairman Elmer E Daw who has served for seven years and agreed to continue for another year after urgent requests from all members.

Winthrop Visiting Nurse Association Reopens Baby Clinic

The baby clinic run by the Winthrop Visiting Nurse Association and Board of Health, chaired by Mrs. Harry W. Farquhar, reopened on Tuesday. Dr. Parker and Miss Durgin attended, and the clinic will meet every Tuesday at 2 PM in the Board of Health rooms on Pauline Street, with a doctor and nurse in charge.

Republicans to Gather in Winthrop Social Hall

The Winthrop Republican League hosts a June 10 social at the Post Office Building Social Hall. A supper at 6:30 pm precedes an evening entertainment, inviting all local Republicans to attend, led by Edgar F. Power, president.

Memorial Exercises By Vets Of Three Wars

Memorial Day ceremonies honored veterans from three wars in a Winthrop town cemetery. Graved graves were decorated by groups including Fort Banks servicemen and the Winthrop Elks. A parade led by Richard R. Flynn marched from Madison avenue to the Soldiers’ Memorial, with taps sounded by buglers and a dedication of a new tablet to Standish Furber.
