Building activity surges in town in first half of year
Building data show a 100 percent gain from last year with total value rising from 75436 to 180552 for the first six months. Eight new single family homes and twenty garages were erected, with Precinct 1 leading in new work at 29 357. Precinct 4 had the least activity at 5200 while precincts 2 3 and 5 totaled 8800 1935 6260 respectively. Alterations and additions reached 59 dwellings and garages town wide.

Rites Held For John R Hanmer
John R. Hanmer longtime credit insurance executive and civic leader died at his home 21 Orlando avenue after a long illness. Born April 26 1865 in Burnside Connecticut he married Gertrude Gaines in 1890. He led the London Guarantee and Accident Company New England desk and active in town politics clubs and Republican groups. Survived by daughter Ruth and two sisters, services held at his home with interment in East Hartford.

The Board of Selectmen reports that the state plans to advertise bids for dredging to improve the Cottage Park and Pleasant Park Yacht Club channels. Mud from both sites will be pumped into Ingleside Park as fill. Town appropriations total 462?7.50 for Pleasant Park and 4000 for Cottage Park, each 25 percent of cost, state covers 75 percent. About 50 000 cubic yards of fill expected from each project. Work likely not to start before September and may wait until after the bathing season due to Pleasant Street pipelines, which could affect Donovan Beach access.
