Legion Carnival Proves a Grand Success at Winthrop Park
The Winthrop Legion carnival drew thousands from Ingleside Park and surrounding areas for a festive evening of rides contests and fireworks. A Ford two door sedan won by Harold Marcus of Woodside Avenue capped a successful fundraiser with proceeds benefiting the post and the Community Hospital after donations.

Camp Powow Opens For Summer On July 3
Camp Powow opens its summer season on July 3 with a roast chicken banquet and daily ice cream during the first week. The Lynn Council's camping program began at Camp Weston in Georgetown Mass on leased land and moved to a new site formerly Amesbury Rifle Club property on Powow River. The base camp will feature an Adirondack lean-to as a 144 hour paddle from the main camp, offering lengthy canoe trips and safe boating expeditions. Carl L. Hilton directs leadership and program with a long scouting background in Lowell Mass and 45 member troop.

Funeral services for former Selectman Henry J. Barry were held at the Church of St John the Evangelist with a solemn requiem mass. The town leader, born in Somerville, Mass., served on the Board of Selectmen and as town solicitor, living at 10 Lpring Road with his wife and family. He was active in civic groups and survived by Elizabeth Grady Barry, Gerard G. Barry, and Marie Elizabeth Barry. Interment followed at Holy Cross Cemetery Malden.
