Hood's Employees At Heights Plant Win First Place In Safety Contest
Hood's workers at Orient Heights and Malden plants earned top honors in a three month safety contest. Orient Heights reported no automobile or team accidents and only one personal incident among 55 employees, while Malden had five vehicle accidents and one personal incident among 60 drivers. Rumford and New Bedford also posted clean records. The program aims to cut accidents with 800 route salesmen showing progress.

Health officials test waters after beach closures
Health officials posted notices at Donovan Beach and near the Pleasant Park Yacht Club closing beaches to bathing until sewer repairs on Pleasant Street are completed. Sewage is currently dumped into the harbor at this point, with no known pollution at other town beaches. A state health survey of Winnthrop bathing waters is requested and results will be published.

Briggs Captures McLaughlin Trophy in Winthrop Golf Meet
In the Winthrop Golf Club Saturday tournament John Hanmer Day drew a record field. Louis Briggs won the McLaughlin Trophy with a two up victory over Eddie Burn, while Les Dunn shot a 67 to break the course record by one stroke. Daniel J. OBrien led the Hanmer event with 74 gross. Burn and Dick McQuillan were one stroke back in a two way tie for second gross. George Farrar, Guy Lothrop, W Franch and T Kelleyhler posted top nets.
