Fireworks Climax At Winthrop Legion Carnival
Winthrop Post No. 146 American Legion closed its annual July Fourth Carnival at Ingleside Park after three days of clear weather and varied events for all ages. A monster fireworks display capped the finale at 11 30 p m with thousands enjoying free ice cream and entertainment. The 1939 Chevrolet Coach gift was awarded to a Thom McAnn Shoe Co employee of Lynn.

Firemen Quell Blaze At 25 Woodside Avenue Apartments
A Sunday afternoon fire started in rubbish under a rear piazza at 25 Woodside Ave and spread to the rear of the three apartment house. The local fire department arrived promptly, confining damage to the piazza and second floor kitchen, with about 1500 dollars in losses and smoke and water damage to all three units.

Mahaney Receives Pension Letter From Winthrop Board
Timothy J. Mahaney, former Building Inspector for Winthrop, retires under the Contributory Pension System on July 1. Daw Byron Robbins Walter Van Dalinda L. Francis handling duties. Special gift awards occur every fifteen minutes.
